tamthebam
We need t'referendum for independence for Yorkshire. Happen lad, they have the same population as Scotland and gas off coast. T' People's Republic of Yorkshire: flat cap and whippet for all on t'Yorkie NHS and 24 hour repeats of Last of Summer Wine on Yorkie TV. It makes sense.

The crowd have a chant which goes: "Yaakshee, Yaakshee, Yaakshee". Over, and fucking over I reckon they'd go for it.

Tony Ferrino
The English psyche is one of outward bravado, but they really just want to be loved. This is based solely on me witnessing a "lad" develop a new comraderie with Welsh folk when English fans got battered by the Russian flash mobs in 2018 (and apparently some Welsh fans helped the English). Only for this to be shattered when videos appeared of Welsh fans celebrating when England got knocked out. This confidence really is paper thin.

Your lived experience of nationalism is that of English nationalism, which is a minority, and as you say “small minded and xenophobic”. As that is your lived experience, you apply your knowledge of nationalists to all who call themselves such. That is a mistake, but understandable. By your own admission, you’ve lived in England now for 40 years, and Scotland is a very different place now compared to 1980 (for instance). Between times I've lived in E'burgh and Deeside. That doesn't matter. What hasn't changed is the outright idiocy of having a managed border at Gretna. -

We can all be in a common travel area with Ireland, as we are now and will be after full Brexit. Just takes reasonable men and women coming to an arrangement. The EU can be very reasonable and imaginative when dealing with grown ups.

Plus, you have to consider the decade plus when iJock is outside of rUK and outside of the EU. Tragic policy but not surprising.
invergowrie arab
It's really only on the last 3 years most English people have cottoned onto the fact that England and UK aren't interchangeable. I would say this would be an interesting dynamic to observe over the next 10 years but we will be gone in the next 5.

It's not in the interests of any of England, Wales, NI, Ireland, the EU or Scotland for that to happen. So it wouldn't. A two year transition arrangement would do. We already meet nearly all the EU membership criteria. Just needs an adult in No 10 doing what's best for England.

Again, that's immaterial. iJock faces a good few years outside of the UK and outside of the EU and with no control over its border or currency. This will appeal to the Glengarry Brigade whose notion of ethno-nationalism may come to fruition but is utter shite for Scotland. -

Again, that is utterly irrelevant since we're one political and economic entity. The end product of independence is to shut Scotland off from its biggest trading partner, to leave it in a currency no-man's land and to place it outside of the EU. Oh and to pull it away from its milch cow whom it suckles for £15Bn per annum. The only people it satisfies are the daft wee tartan gonks.

It's a trick performed from Putin's Russia to Orban's Hungary to Vučić' Serbia the FN in France to Farage, "Tommy Robinson" & co. here. Mugs.
