Marten
A new season so let's open a new thread. On 12th September the eredivisie starts again, clubs are well into pre-season now and fans have returned to the grounds, although under strict conditions and vastly reduced capacities. Last season was declared null and void, so no promotion/relegation and no champions have been declared, European tickets were devided based on the table at the time of abandonment but number 1 Ajax haven't been declared champions, despite them getting the CL ticket for the champions. The only teams that were promoted were in non-league to fill in gaps due to withdrawing teams & changes to the 4th tier (both divisions expanded to 18 & colt teams being removed). Yesterday, Arjen Robben made his return for FC Groningen in a 1-1 friendly draw against 2nd tier side Almere City.

There is effectively a new 4th tier for just colt teams from which they can get promoted to the Tweede Divisie.
Derry Alli
Just read about Daley Blind collapsing again on the park with heart problems. He was eventually able to walk off but its probably about time he calls time on the career. It could happen at any time (the defibrillator cutting out) but surely its better to walk away now?

He has decided to not train or play until medical professionals have fully checked him.
Marten
Decent start of the season for Excelsior, won 1-6 away at PSV Colts. But the opposition was so poor that it's difficult to draw any useful conclusions. Defensively it was still poor.
GNU_Linux
Some game between Excelsior & Almere which finished 6-4 to the visitors which saw seven goals in the 1st half alone.

We're very strong up front, but our defence is a complete and utter shambles. One thing for sure, if you watch an Excelsior game you're guaranteed to see goals, on both sides! Started the season with 6-1 & 4-6. I wonder what the third set will bring...
Marten
The eredivisie started this season. Arjen Robben made his return for FC Groningen against PSV, ironically the same fixture was his last game in the eredivisie back in 2004, but then he played for PSV. It wasn't the return he wanted, he went off injured after 30 minutes and PSV won 3-1. The injury doesn't look too bad though so hopefully he won't be out for too long. Ajax won 1-0 away against Sparta, Daley Blind returned, he has ondergone tests to ensure there are no risks with his heart and got the all-clear. They played over 60 minutes with 10 men after an early red card for Tagliafico. Feyenoord won 2-0 away against PEC Zwolle. AZ didn't play due to their upcoming Champions League qualifier. Excelsior won 1-3 away against Dordrecht in the regional derby, so I'm happy.
Marten
Quite a remarkable signing for PSV. Mario Götze joins them after having been released by Borussia Dortmund. It will be interesting to see what he can do for them.

It will be interesting to see what he can do for them. If he can get anywhere near his best then he'll be an excellent signing for them. Unfortunately I think that injuries may have taken their toll on him, both physically and mentally. He could be great but equally, I can see him being one of those players who retires before he's 30 if this move doesn't work out for him.

It seems like a sensible move to try to get his career back on track. Less pressure, especially from a media point of view, compared to big clubs in Germany. A German manager who knows him and a few other German players. The league will suit his style of play. It's a step down from where he was so a bigger chance to make an impact and if it works well and he stays injury-free, it could take him back to the top. Culturally not too different and close to the German border. He is only 28 in the end of the day, so if he gets back in good shape physically there is still plenty of future in him as a player. PSV v Groningen later this season is going to be interesting: Götze v Robben. Edited October 7, 2020 by Marten
Marten
Mario Götze had a good debut for PSV, he scored after 8 minutes and played well until being substituted in the 67th minute in a comfortable 3-0 victory against PEC Zwolle.Robben came back after injury for Groningen when coming on as a substitute in the second half. He played well, but the game remained 0-0.Feyenoord had a poor day, 1-1 at home against local rivals Sparta, and dropped off the (shared) first place. Ajax beat Heerenveen 5-1, AZ again threw away a lead, this time 2-0 became 2-2 against VVV. Vitesse kept their strong form by beating ADO Den Haag 0-2 away. PSV are now the only leaders with 13 points from 5 games. Vitesse and Ajax are 1 point behind, Feyenoord and Twente are 2 points behind.

Szamo's_Ammo
It's a shame they never got to 15 against a team called VVV.

GNU_Linux
Only Ajax's 3rd biggest win their history but now their biggest in a league game. Beat Red Boys Differdange in the UEFA Cup 14-0 in 1984 & beat WHC in the Dutch Cup 14-1 in 2009. The previous Eredivisie record was a 12-1 by Ajax over Vitesse Arnhem back in 1972.

Marten
I watched most of the second half. Just shocking how poor they were. I've seen far better defending in the juniors.
