Commentators saying it was great refereeing 😬

They got it right according to the letter of the law. Any deliberate touch by a defender (but not the goalkeeper) puts everyone onside.

It is a stupid rule. There should be some sort of control required, not just a touch. And rules like that already exist because if it had went through to the keeper he would have been allowed to pick it up because it was not a deliberate.

No they didn't, Garcia only makes an attempt to play the ball because he knows Mbappe is there, in an offside position, meaning he is interfering with play and therefore offside.

Yeah that's one I'm pretty sure is open to interpretation. A different set of officials could easily have given that.

The rule isn't great, but I think the officials have interpreted it wrongly.

Almost all of that is utter nonsense, he is clearly interfering with play.

he is quoting from the rules, which are a load of shite right now.

for example if Gordon didn't make the save before the 2nd Israel goal it would have been overturned by VAR for Handball but since it was put in by a different player the handball didn't matter

I think the incident tonight is another example of how they changed the rules to suit VAR. The replay official does not have to make a hard judgment about what is control and what isn't.

Rules according to the BBC, the last two apply to Mbappe for this goal.
