It’s not harsh compared to some of the pens given this season. I’m leading a player at all, accidental or not, seems to be a pen. Alexander-Arnold ought to be off (by the rules, I don’t think you do if you are being sensible).

My initial thought was penalty and red card. Seeing it again, though, he is looking at ball, five yards away, not the player. I don't think you can say that he has brought him down on purpose. Still, it's Liverpool so LOL.

He's scoring a tap in if TAA doesn't get in the road.

What's the ref meant to do? It has to be a penalty intentional or not.

I don't think that's the rule. There doesn't have to be intent for handball to be given any more. There still does in the case of a foul. So, it would be unlucky for Everton but no penalty.

Indirect free-kick for obstruction then?

That would've been a laugh, haven't seen one of those for ages.

This sort of argument applies to a clumsy challenge where you're not trying to bring a player down but accidentally clip their heels. I don't think it really applies to an incident where you are basically on the ground and someone trips over you. The question, to me, is whether Alexander-Arnold tried to stand up (ie an intentional action) and therefore brought the player down, or whether the player just ran into him while he was on the ground. If it's the latter I don't think it's a penalty, but if it's the former then I'd say it is.

Maybe. Would have to see it again but I don't think even that. Bring him down on purpose, penalty. Obstruct him on purpose, indirect free kick.

I don't think he did either deliberately, he was just trying to stand up again.
