Bit harsh imo. Not convinced he's got it, certainly signings have been suspect Werner and Mendy are comically bad. But don't know whether they were his choices.

If you look at Arsenal and Southampton it shows the benefit of giving managers a bit of time, I thought that might start a trend of holding off and not pulling the trigger so quickly, but Abrahmovich is not a patient type and they have been pretty rank for a while now.

Chelsea have plenty of decent players at the club. Lampard is pretty clearly a terrible manager and I doubt time is going to do much in curing that.

Ronaldo.  Complete no-brainer.  Unless you mean played the best whilst in the EPL, in which case dunno.

Ronaldo's final Man Utd season was something ridiculous like 40 goals in 38 league games iirc? will have a wee google in a min and edit as appropriate, but I think even that might be one of the finest individual seasons ever, he was unbelievable.

edit: as promised! ahhh looks like it was his second last season i was thinking of. 42 goals in all competitions, 31 in the league + he was the top CL scorer, if wikipedia has it correct.

Yeah, it depends what is meant by best player in the EPL.

He is the best player ever to have played in it almost certainly, but was only really at his best for two seasons then away to Madrid.

So you could say someone like Giggs who won it about 12 times or Scholes about the same.

But Ronaldo has won five WPOTY awards, if its just best player nobody can touch that.

Btw can you name the only other WPOTY winner to have played in the premiership?

Maybe, my point is we don't really know yet. You would have said the same of Hassenhutl and Arteta not so long ago, now both are flying.

Modric.

Bergkamp is surely in the conversation for best EPL player?

Yeah tremendous player, David Silva too.  Its really a subjective thing, you could throw a lot of names out there.

only a handful of names are coming to me but cant pick any, none of them sound right but w/o cheating - Shevchenko or Ballack at Chelsea, Fernando Torres with Liverpool and Zlatan at Man Utd. Think they've surely had some individual honours but not a WPOTY.

Zola for me

His longevity was mad iirc, kept going until he was nearly a Kenny Miller age, think he scored a respectable few for Cagliari including a hattrick against Juve in one of his final seasons playing. edit: googled it. wasn't a hattrick but he scored two against Juve in his final professional game at almost 39
