COVID-19 In Scottish Football

Furlough ain't gonna last forever.

It's going to last at least another three months and the majority of playing staff at lower level clubs will be out of contract in the summer. Paying them from club coffers instead using a handful of streams and a government grant (which they already have 50% of anyway) is not a significantly better option.

Caught a bit of the radio the other day and Michael Stewart said they were going because they thought might get some sort of benefit out of it and they're desperate for any sort of advantage they can get to claw back the deficit on Rangers* - think he said that they've gone since 2016 so that might be why they've still gone since they put a lot of stock in it, but surely its more simple than that? Something like they've booked it up and they didn't want to lose £X amount of money for cancelling it from their flights, accommodation, booking whatever facilities they were using to train etc.

booking it in the first place was madness (HibsFan's rant a few pages ago is a pretty *chef kiss* post) but not eating shit over a short notice cancellation and then announcing a positive covid case is proper banter years stuff

I think there may be a contractual reason for it - the Dubai government appear to have been paying loads of people to go there recently.

That's also very plausible because Celtic as a club have valued profit over common sense for years, and it seems entirely likely that the board would have weighed up the profit against the fairly obvious negatives and still not come to the conclusion it was an incredibly daft idea.

Willy will be along soon to blame everyone else but Celtic, you have been pretty frank & honest about the ongoing shitstorm that has been your clubs season, that deserves a lot of credit.

Not point being anything else or you end up coming across completely disingenuous and a bit of tit 😂

The level of contempt on show here for their own fans btw.  1902471637_JackDross.png.294030ebd55c60174eb3a345cfcbed7a.png

"Oops, sorry bhoys, while you were sat at home obeying the rules and not seeing friends and family, we went off to Dubai and one of our players has ended up with coronavirus. Anyway, don't worry about a fuller statement on the website, that's enough of all that. Now, how about opening up your wallets and buying into our jackpot like the dutiful cash machines you are?"

I would really like to think that the SFA/SPL would have been supplied with Celtics risk assessment and protocols and ok'd them before giving permission but who knows.

Don't want to sound as if I'm defending Celtic here but is there any difference between travelling in a bus to Aberdeen rather than a plane to Dubai and staying overnight in a hotel where no doubt there would be a certain amount of mingling. I'm assuming they would  have been following the same protocols in Dubai as they would have been in Aberdeen.

Still shouldn't have gone though in the current circumstances

There should be no overnights in a hotel - at our recent game in Dingwall players had to travel up and back on the same day and eat sandwiches on the bus.

If Celtic really think they can claim no other player was a close contact, after they've just spent a week on fecking holiday together, the game really is a bogey.

They really are a reprehensible club.  The arrogance on dispaly and the huge f**k you to their own fans and all fans is beyond belief.  Morons.

Despite being easily one of the biggest clubs in Europe outwith the top five leagues, their board has one of the most smalltime mentalities ever. The parochial-ness of their attitude (summed up by giving Neil Lennon the keys to fucking up 10IAR because "he knows the city") is baffling. Long may it continue.

Agreed.

Think I read somewhere that you would have to book out the whole hotel if you were to use it for accommodation before a match, and would have to have risk assessments, COVID secure plans etc for minimal contact with hotel staff and with each other. Hardly worth the bother for domestic matches (though I believe Rangers stayed in Aberdeen last night?) and it is more for international competitions where overnight stays are essential. There was no essential need to travel to Dubai for football reasons here.
