COVID-19 In Scottish Football

Jody Morris was booed at Dens during the warm up after joining us.

Joey Barton was booed and heckled at the few grounds he visited with Rangers.

High profile player joins from English side to experience Scottish football for the first time is the link here, not his nationality/religion.

Genuinely mental Celtic fans believe it was anything more.

It's the same at Scotland games as well.

When the opposition team is getting announced, some fans typically boo the players they know and have heard of, especially once who play in England.

As you say, it is mental people believe it is anything sinister.

Never happened to Sutton or Hartson at any ground. I’d call both of them higher profile than Lennon.

Sheesh, Faddy and Ian McCall on Sportsound agreeing that he had a point about the Scotland conga. Is nobody at any point going to clarify this conga didn't take place last week when the country was under full lockdown again.

Was it right? No.
Was it understandable in the circumstances? Yes, but that doesn't make it right.

However, it took place at a time when the virus infection rates were falling around Europe and parts of the country were under limited restrictions. Pubs were open at the time for goodness sake albeit much of the story was they closed during the penalty shoot out. It's not a remotely comparable timeline. The country was under full lockdown with new infectious Covid variants by the time Celtic swanned off to Dubai.

It's complete deflection and someone needs to call him out on it, not sit there saying he's quite right and has a point.

McCall is a tube.

Are you expecting us to go through a list of every single player here?

There's been 3 other, straight to mind, examples showing non-Irish/non-Catholic players getting dogs abuse during their time in Scottish football due to their profile.

Maybe back then Lennon had a reputation from down South of being a dick head while Sutton/Hartson didn't? I can't remember what it was like.

It's genuinely mental that none of this processes and your first thought is to call everyone bigots though. Truly an insight into the mind of an Old Firm fan.

There is also a context to it as well.

The conga line and the ongoing celebrations were for an historical victory in an important match. If the Celtic players had behaved in a similar way if they had, say, qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League or something, I doubt many people would have had an issue with them celebrating like that.

Whilst that's true, to put it in context and try to justify it implies it's a valid comparable comment. It's not and it shouldn't be treated as such.

Yes I’m comparing Lionel Messi to Neil Lennon.  Yes, that’s what I’m doing here.

Lennon was a nobody in football terms when he came here, a dogged midfielder with a run-of-the-mill club. Hardly high profile as was said before in this thread and seldom mentioned in the same breath as Messi.

They should try a spell in the lower leagues where you can hear every shout.  Anyone with a reputation at all doesn't stand a chance.

Most give as good as they get and seem to enjoy it better than being just booed.

That's football . You try and put off the influential ones in the opposition to gain the advantage.  ..........................The line is drawn at the sectarian or racist stuff though.  We leave that for the bigots.

He was your second most expensive transfer ever at the time, and had over 100 EPL games for a Leicester side who won a Cup and played in Europe 😂

I had no idea you were one of the fucking morons who believed anyone, outwith two clubs, gives a f**k about a players religion, yet here we are.
