COVID-19 In Scottish Football

BOSSES of a festival held in Dubai have told their customers to "blame Neil Lennon" shortly after it was announced that the city was added to Scotland's travel quarantine list.

FLY Open Air festival shared the comment in an update on their Instagram page.

It read: "For customers travelling from Scotland we envisage any travel restrictions currently in place to have lifted by April 2021.

"A negative PCR test will be required on entry. A further info pack will be sent to you.

"For customers based in the UAE - we look forward to bringing FLY to desert and dancing with you this year.

"All venues in Dubai are open and further tickets will be available soon. Link in our bio.

"We love and miss you all. Music is the answer. Stay safe. Abide by the rules. Blame Neil Lennon."

Deary fucking me.

He should be thrown out of Hampden for that, purely on the grounds of it being so out of touch with reality and the commonly-accepted viewpoint that even most Celtic fans have managed to voice.

For the SFA to go into bat of behalf of Celtic when their own fans are saying "we've fucked it here lads" is bizarre.

Don't know about that, Ian Maxwell.

Interesting viewpoint ahead of our appeal, that. Because the fact remains that our players could have caught Covid whether we broke regulations or not.

I still think we will (should?) get punished, but if they can't prove a link between our outbreak and our infections (and how could they) then they have to either:

1) punish the other teams that have been shown to be breaking rules

2) punish the teams that have had to postpone games

3) forget the idea of punishing teams altogether and just let us crack on with it

Astonishing take from Ian Maxwell. Saints & Killie players could have all picked it up from going to the supermarket. Therefore I will assume neither club will have a case to answer and the punishments will be thrown out on Thursday.

We'll still get punished. They'll hang their hat on the 'you called the games off due to lack of players' whereas Celtic aren't doing so.

They said that they 'social distanced' on the flight. There was a study of infection on an Emirates flight which showed people over 2 rows away and across an aisle got infected from other passengers. You'd imagine the longer the flight with the need to go to the toilet etc would only increase the risk.

That is the crux of the matter though.

It certainly is, but it's basically saying clubs are fine to breach the rules as long as the games go ahead. Kinda flies in the face of the idea of this all about being in aid of player safety.

You can almost see the strings being pulled by Lawwell.

It's interesting that neither the SFA, SPFL or Celtic seem to want to address the issue - which is that COVID protocols were clearly breached.

It really is embarrassing how Celtic essentially run the spineless SPFL for their own benefit.

They seem to have forgotten that in public health matters there are higher authorities that aren't completely craven towards them.

And fair play to Celtic supporters, most of whom I know acknowledge the stupidity of travelling to Dubai for a jolly.

The truth is though that even if Covid didn't exist, since there is no winter break and a fixture had to be forcibly rearranged it should never have happened anyway.  The fixture list should be protected over Celtic's training preferences.

In future SPFL when Celtic 'ask' for fixtures to be postponed or rearranged so they can sit round a pool or play friendly matches for cash, how about you tell them no?  Like any self respecting footballing body would instead of backing out the room on your knees bowing.

Technically fine as they are supposedly in their own 'bubble'.

That 16 folk have to isolate pretty much proves this. Long haul flights must be the biggest risk for this.

Technically there's no risk from walking past folk (in terms of who would be considered a close contact).

Its basically punishing clubs that have smaller squads. Celtic are able to absorb the restrictions on players cause they have a playing squad close to 50.

Fairly certain we requested to postpone our league game in order to be allowed to test our youth players so we could potentially field them instead. This may have led to us losing the game anyway but we wouldnt have been fined because there wouldve been no investigation.

Absolute nonsense if our forfeit is upheld when this farce has just happened.
