COVID-19 In Scottish Football

Absolute melts wanting the football cancelled.

Bolingoli is obviously an idiot and deserves punishment but he hasn't even tested positive. There is still community transmission in Scotland and the testing strategy was put in place with the acceptance that some players/staff might contract corona.

Teams are still implementing some social distancing outside of contact training to reduce any potential spread. Players not allowed to travel in cars together, few players in a changing room at a time, wearing masks even when sitting in an outdoor stand.

Nobody "wants" it cancelled.

The fans don't want it cancelled and government certainly isn't going to want to make the unpopular vote losing decision to cancel it either. But if players and clubs don't get their act together and we see more and more of this, then it becomes and inevitability.

Interesting Jason Leitch just said for schools that any puil with symptoms has to get a test.
On a test coming back negative they can immediately return to school and their family no longer have to self isolate.
So surely Bolingoli has a negative test then it is no harm done.

Unless he has symptoms then the test means nothing.

It takes at max 5 days for Covid to be detectable via test. So a negative test 5 days after returning should be the all clear.

And many cases are asymptomatic so symptoms are actually the thing that mean nothing.

The testing arrangements for football players still makes no sense with the just announced testing arrangements for schools.

edit: Nicola says can't be 1 rule for footballers and 1 rule for everyone else. But it is one rule for school kids and one rule for everyone else.

And the Aberdeen players didn't get corona from breeching the rules. If the 2 of them had went to the pub then no rules would have been broken.

As far as I can see there’s four options.

1) Pause until government is happy that stricter policies are being put in place
2) Punish individual players - suspend/fine Bolignoli and the Aberdeen eight
3) Punish individual clubs - fine and/or points deduction if your players break the rules
4) Do nothing and hope it sorts itself out.

Surely they won’t do option four....

How many people then have been prosecuted for the crime of 'meeting people from more than four households in a day' in 2020 so far?

Be extremely specific.

Well obviously the authorities would need to know that the people in question are from more than 4 different households. The problem with football players is that because they're considerably higher profile than joe public, it becomes far easier to identify when they break this law. Also, not all crimes result in some kind of court law suit. If you're caught in possession of a few grams of weed for example, you've obviously broken the law, but they're unlikely to drag you to jail for finger prints.

SPFL need to draw up plans for how many of the games need to be completed to make the season "valid" as this will only get worse even if clubs stick to the agreed rules

Let's go with calling it after 4 rounds of fixtures.  Go out with a bang - most exciting week ever in Scottish football 😀

It's crazy that Celtic didn't know one of their players was in a different country.

How the f**k does that happen in 2020?

Quite easily, I imagine. I wouldn't expect clubs to track every movement of every player when they have been given a few days off.

Interesting comments from Sturgeon. Wouldn't expect to see Aberdeen or Celtic playing in the next 10 days but then pretty much says it is up to the footballing authorities to cancel the games.

Just shows they are making this up as they go in some scenarios. It isn't an easy situation, and a real balance has to be found, but there are glaring inconsistencies all over. Players being selfish and irresponsible doesn't help.

Agreed 💯

I'm just in a huff because I want to go to the fitbaw again 😂

Requires a clear decision from the footballing authorities.
Can’t see a problem there.

Baseball is the perfect example of how the whole schedule for the season can fall apart. Cardinals have still only played 5 games after positive tests, so are already not going to be able to complete the 60-game season. Still kind of astonished MLB is attempting to keep going.

It's an absolute shitshow.

They will be. It just won't be made public to us until they need to do so.

There have been thousands of tests of footballers and only a couple of positive tests. There is no problem with football unless you are an alarmist mug.

Would it require a vote? As I can’t see that ever passing/being agreed to by all members. Especiallly those who could see themselves near the bottom or the top.

Oh. Well that's ok then. It's a good thing this virus isn't viral or anything.
