Find it a lot easier to budget with cash rather than using contactless wherever and whenever. Chinese takeaways will be the last places to use card emoji23.png

My Chinese takeaway has been taking card for ages. In fact most takeaways I use up here allow you to pay by card.

Almost every Chinese takeaway down this way only takes cash. Or they'll maybe let you pay card in-store where the machine is connected to some dodgy Chinese company.

Anyone been in Germany lately? Was in Berlin in Feb, pretty amazing how many places don't take card considering they'll supposedly ahead of us on so many things over there

One of the "benefits" of COVID-19 has been an notable increase of ability to pay by card.

Another benefit being discontinuation of having to shake hands with umpteen colleagues every morning.

FWIW I used to work in an office with a group of Nigerians and every morning they'd all go around all the desks and shake each individual's hand.  Everyone, every single day*.

*working day.  Turning up at your house on a Sunday** morning would be a bit creepy

**one of them was actually called Sunday

Have always disliked shaking hands so glad it's fucked off for now.

I genuinely think that it will soon f*** off forever tbh, although it'll still linger around as a habit limited to the older generations that the youth will see as being Archaic, like sending thank you cards / holiday letters.

Always struck me as one of these things that was unquestionably done simply because our elders did it, who had done the same since the medieval days of everybody carrying daggers around.  Much like being told to keep your elbows off the table, it's an absolutely pointless instruction that has simply been passed down and followed "just because".

Now that people will undoubtedly weigh up the positives and negatives of it all in an age when people are becoming increasingly distal and more comfortable speaking via electronics rather than in person, it'll soon be gone.  IMO anyway.

Intrigued by this thought process. It's the younger ones that are all cuddles and jumping all over each other - they then quieten down into handshakes.

I genuinely can't ever see handshakes disappearing. It's just what we do.

Same was probably once said about greetings involving kissing on the cheeks.

Try that now and you'll possibly end up with a can of mace unloaded in your face.

Yup, hopefully it goes for good.

Demolition Man has always been our future. A film ahead of its time.

Don't mind a hug. Handshakes must go though.

I'm just back from a walk with a friend where I greeted her with exactly this and an embrace.

The one I'm worried about disappearing is wearing a tie. Was already an endangered species in my office as someone who wore one and obviously no point when working from home. If homeworking becomes the norm for office workers can see them disappearing more or less entirely.

Good. Ties are ridiculous and serve absolutely no purpose. People in the future will look at them the way we look  at ruffs in Elizabethan times

Agreed. Fortunately have never been required to wear one in a job.
