Talking of no appeal worldwide.  I was in a bar in Bangkok and Celtic/Rangers game was on the big screen, it was fairly busy the place (full of Thais), but not a soul was watching.  After about half an hour the channel got switched to some shite English Prem game, can't remember, something like Southampton/Bournemouth, everyone then turned round and started watching.  So, they were football fans, but just EPL fanboys. Fitba, naw.

Then on the other hand, I met a Thai guy in our local market (backend of nowhere) with a Dundee Utd top on, a retro '80 style.   It was totally bizarre.  I told him "Paul Hegarty is c**t" and made my way.

I met a Turkish-Cypriot Motherwell fan in Famagusta once. He’d never been to Scotland but saw the name on a coupon once, liked it and kept betting on them.

Nice lad, bit trampy though.

Couldn't find a better thread for this but SPFL Watch over on twitter has collated viewing figures for Scottish games shown on TV. Also includes extra stuff like TV revenue (domestic & international) & prize money.

That's pretty interesting and the figures are impressive. Wonder how they compare to normal times?

New Year Old Firm nearly getting 1m. I remember just 2 yrs ago reading an article that the old firm (275k) got less than Villa v Forest (300k) and the Sheffield derby (420k) one weekend. That's some turnaround.

More folk tuning in to see Hearts v Dundee than Aberdeen v Celtic.

Why don't Sky have a decent Highlights and preview/chat about Scottish fitba show?

Apologies if they do but I have never heard of it/noticed it on the planner.

Would you actually want this though?

You know straight from the off that it'll be at least 20 mins each on Celtic and Rangers, 10 mins on Hibs or Aberdeen or Hearts to provide "balance" and 10 mins on the rest of the teams combined. I genuinely cant imagine Sky giving any sort of insight into, for instance, Livi v Ross County without just showing the manager's pre-match interview.

Yeah I suppose my use of decent, in my head, meant a fairly balanced highlight package / chat show about everything. But I know yer right.

They produce a 15-minute highlights show - that gets used by International broadcasters. It's pretty basic especially compared what the Eredivisie and LigaNOS have.

In terms of getting more exposure, who are we supposed to be "exposing" the product to, and what tangible benefits will the clubs get out of that?

We're already doing exceptionally well on attendances at all levels, and I'm not convinced there's loads of room for growth there. I'm also pretty convinced that beyond (maybe even including) the two obvious clubs there is never realistic chance of our clubs having substantial global appeal.

I'd like to see BBC Scotland take on a token league game once a weekend. A non OF one.

Expose some of the teams to folk who can't afford to/won't pay for subscription television.
