I got to about 1902-03 last night before your post rescued me, and I was on the third potato. Potato I was buried with Vale of Leven at the end of the 1891-82 season, Potato II was buried with Dumbarton at the end of the 1895-86.

It's likely that we'll agree when I run my programme (maybe this afternoon), but I should note that there are a handful of minor errors on the LondonHearts site in terms of having matches on the wrong dates or with the wrong scorelines, so it's possible that mine will do something different.

The smart tactic is to keep the hot tottie until the split and then win one game, no danger of it returning.  You can only be thwarted by an early close to the season so let’s hope there is no pandemic or some such.

Week 5: Motherwell (0-3 Celtic (A))

Week 6: St Johnstone (0-1 Motherwell (A))

Week 7: St Johnstone (0-1 Ross County (H))

Week 8: St Johnstone (0-2 Livingston (A))

Week 9: St Johnstone (0-2 Celtic (H))

Week 10: Hamilton Accies (3-5 St Johnstone (H))

Week 11: Hamilton Accies (0-8  (EIGHT) Rangers (A))

Week 12: Hamilton Accies (1-2 Dundee Utd (A))

Week 13: Hamilton Accies (1-1 Aberdeen (H))

Week 14: Kilmarnock (0-1 Hamilton (A))

Week 15: Kilmarnock (0-2 Celtic (A))

Week 16: Kilmarnock (0-2 Aberdeen (H))

Week 20: Motherwell (0-3 Hamilton (H))

Week 21: Motherwell (1-1 St Mirren (A))

Week 22: Motherwell (1-1 Rangers (H))

Week 23: Motherwell (0-2 Aberdeen (A))

Run of the mill victory for Aberdeen sees Motherwell join Hamilton at the top of the Hot PotatoTM league, with 7 weeks in possession.

Quick turnaround this week, as Motherwell are off to Dingwall on Wednesday to face Ross County in what could be a season defining match. Also both teams are near the bottom, so I guess the league table is important too.

Others may think that actually winning the occasional game before the split would be a preferred option, but each to their own I guess.

Someone at Motherwell must be reading this thread for my tactical advice.

County become the 5th team this season to take custody of the Hot PotatoTM . With St Mirren horsing Dundee Utd on their own patch, that means that the 5 teams that have held the potato, are currently the bottom 5 in the division. How nice.

Next up for County is a huge trip to Hamilton next Wednesday, a team who have gotten rid of the Potato twice already this season, and also sent it home with Motherwell in week 20. A team very familiar with the potato.

All this jobby-talk seems to be deflecting away from the real issue here - Hamilton take possession of the Hot Potato for the third time this season.

2 late goals from County courtesy of Whyte and McKay (not the whisky) drop the Hot Potato off for another stint in Lanarkshire, doing nothing to quell the rumours that it has now just gone ahead and formed a bubble with Brian Rice.

Accies host Rangers on Sunday, and travel through to the Spaghettihad on Wednesday. Then, incredibly, a third Hot Potato themed Lanarkshire derby of the season beckons, as they go to Motherwell.

A valiant effort yesterday, however the Hot Potato doesn't give a f**k about performances. This is a results business.

Week 26: Hamilton (1-1 Rangers (H))

Fixtures coming up now Michael O'Halloran style - thick and fast.

Livingston v Hamilton at 6pm on Wednesday.

Sorry about the delay on this. I've now written the code which determines how to give out the potato when the holders go out of the league. Now it's just a case of making it sort through the games - hopefully I'll be done tomorrow.

Livingston, bricking it at the prospect of being given the Hot Potato, didn't even try to clear their all weather pitch, leading to the 27th (ish) postponement this season at the Spaghettihad due to varying types of weather. Classic.

Which leads us on to an incredible third Hot Potato Lanarkshire Derby this season. Can Accies do as they normally do, and show up in the games that really matter? Or will Motherwell avenge the 2 previous defeats to their lovely neighbours?

Well... As predicted, Hamilton deliver their usual pumping of their rivals.

Next up for Motherwell,  League Cup Finalists St Johnstone at home on Saturday, where we can see how they perform under real pressure, never mind a final.

We all remember earlier in the season when Motherwell came to #perthshire and left the Potato don't we? No? Well now its time for revenge.

Anyway, here's the table

image.png.40d982ca5b8cdf4e24eb94090a9d9b7c.png

Only 3 teams have 100% records in Potatoey fixtures, with Hibs the sole team yet to face the tension of a powderkeg Hot Potato game. And if their recent performances in semi finals is anything to go by, we know they just won't turn up. If Motherwell fail to beat St Johnstone then St Mirren, Hibs will face the Tater. If Motherwell beat St Johnstone, then Saints fail to win in Hamilton, Hibs will come to Perth and leave with the Hot Potato on the 6th March.

Jack Ross, your time has come. Maybe.
