Only team in the league to concede zero potato goals. Huge.

Stepping up and performing in the real high pressure games. Who gives a f**k about cup finals, its all about the Potato

Week 32: Ross County (1-2 Hibs (H))

Some very dubious refereeing ensures the Hot Potato will finish the season in the bottom six, with Ross County travelling to St Johnstone on Saturday. Obviously St Johnstone can still just about make top six, but that would mean beating Ross County.

On a very happy note, every team has played 32 games, and we are at week 32 of the Hot Potato. With all the rearranged/postponed games, I didn't think that would happen.

2 sides have 100% records in Hot Potato games, rather surprisingly it is Celtic & Dundee Utd, and not Steven Gerrard's Rangers (That's their full name right?)

What a weekend. What a team. League Cup winners, and perennial top-six-finishers St Johnstone do the business yet again, ensuring a bottom six finish for both the Hot Potato and St Mirren. Another narrow defeat for Ross County sees them keep possession of the Potato into the post-split fixtures.

St Mirren and Dundee Utd could yet hold the Potato for the first time this season.

As always at this point, we don't have a clue who the next fixture will involve, but I'm sure County will fancy their chances against anybody in that bottom six.

I think this is, arguably, the most gutting thing about the late Hamilton equaliser on Saturday.

On the other hand, it does keep the season interesting for us.

After a break that seemed to last forever, we are back with a bang.  Ross County don't have enough to overcome Killie, and so keep possession as we head in to another wee break. Only 9 more days.

Next up for County is the greatest St Mirren team in generations, who will go down in history in Paisley as the superstars that hit the lofty heights of nearly top six. Lets see if they can get a Hot Potato to go with that famous accolade.

Another defeat for Ross County, and they now sit just 3 points above Hamilton in 12th. More worryingly for them though, they only have 3 more opportunities to avail themselves of the Hot Potato this season.

On Saturday they travel to Tannadice to face a United side who probably don't give a f**k about the league anymore. With a massive semi (insert Kenneth gif here) on the horizon, it will be interesting to see what team Micky's Melon decides on.

The Nigerians were right, what a bunch of Dundee Uniteds. Perhaps with one eye on a semi *kenneth gif*, Dundee United (or as Sky Sports know them, Dundee) lose at Tannadice Park (or as Sky Sports probably think, Dens Park) to relegation threatened County. Yogis boysh done good to get the shree pointsh here.

Next up for the 'idiots' is Motherwell at home a week tomorrow.

Only 4 teams left in contention for this,  and 2 of them are in the Scottish Cup semi finals. Dundee United, Motherwell, St Mirren or Ross County will win this seasons Scottish Premiership Hot Potato.

United taking possession for the first time this season. Motherwell will finish the season having held on the longest.

Aberdeen, Celtic, Livingston & Rangers guaranteed to never have even held it, while a Dundee United victory over Motherwell would see St Mirren avoiding possession as well.

A dramatic comeback from Motherwell secures a Desmond at Tannadice, Devante Coles 91st Minute equaliser seeing Motherwell truly safe this season. No relegation, but more importantly no Hot Potato.

And now...

Come one, come all! | Dragon Share | Flight Rising

All three games on Sunday now hugely important. Hamilton looking for a 9-0 win to avoid relegation, Ross County need a point to avoid the playoff, and Dundee United need to win to avoid winning the (not so) coveted Scottish Premiership Hot Potato.

The Potato will stay in the league this season as neither of the two teams can be relegated.

Dundee United travel to Paisley to face St 'Nearly' Mirren in a winner (loser) takes all  showdown. Unless its a draw of course, in which case the Potato returns to Tannadice Park for the summer.

I can't wait.

We have a winner. 38 games of tension and stress, and one team comes out on top bottom.

Gary Austin on Twitter: "Dundee United logo concept. What do you reckon @dundeeunitedfc? #dundeeunited #arabs #ForeverTangerine #dufc… "

A plucky 0-0 draw with the best St Mirren team in 30 yearsTM means Dundee Utd finish the 2020/21 season in possession of the Scottish Premiership Hot Potato.

Final tables. A Lanarkshire heavy season for our Potato, with Motherwell and Hamilton both involved in 13 HP fixtures each, including 3 against each other where Accies won all 3. The Potato spent 19 out of 38 weeks in Lanarkshire, with one extra week at Fir Park.

7 teams out of 12 held on at some point, St Mirren the only bottom 6 team to have a carb free year. Livingston the only club to not concede in a HP game, and Celtic join them as one of two clubs with a 100% record in HP fixtures.  The anomaly being that Celtic only conceded in the 5-1 opening day win, had they not scored 5 that day then Hamilton might not have had the potato.

But none of that matters, as Dundee United swooped in relatively last minute to lift the silverware, and the unwanted tag of Scottish Premiership Hot Potato Winners 2020/21.

A new one every season.

Nothing to hand. I remember Ross County won it last year, I can have a look into it at some point though.

Someone ( @craigkillie ?) was looking into an all time Scottish Football Hot Potato.

Thanks for the reminder - I had somehow forgotten about that. I'll try to revive it over the next few days.
