Well... As predicted, Hamilton deliver their usual pumping of their rivals.

Next up for Motherwell,  League Cup Finalists St Johnstone at home on Saturday, where we can see how they perform under real pressure, never mind a final.

We all remember earlier in the season when Motherwell came to #perthshire and left the Potato don't we? No? Well now its time for revenge.

I hear Jason Kerr's pink with nerves.

Week 26: Hamilton (1-1 Rangers (H))

Week 27: Motherwell (1-4 Hamilton (H))

Week 28: Motherwell (0-3 St Johnstone (H))

A thumping victory for League Cup finalists St Johnstone at Fir Park means that instead of spending the week looking forward to a rare week off, and a trip to Hampden, the Scottish Premiership Hot Potato instead visits Paisley. What a disappointment.

Motherwell join Hamilton at the top (bottom?) of the league having held the potato for 9 weeks.

Wednesdays game between St Mirren and Motherwell huge for survival/top six reasons, but also (mainly) potato based reasons.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but another Well loss on Wed will mean Hibs' first Burnie Tattie contest this Saturday?

A Well loss, or a draw, will mean Hibs face the prospect of the Hot Potato. History would suggest it remains in Lanarkshire, as the Potato hasn't been in the top six at all this season.

But if you can count on Hibs for one thing, it's to completely shit the bed in a big game.

Hey, this is my thread for shamelessly having digs at other teams. It's not supposed to work the other way round

Fans of chaos are pulling for the Hot Potato to end up with a Top 6 team the game before the split.

Wouldn't that be great.

Still plenty opportunity for that.

Starting tomorrow night, as it looks like St Mirren will grab that last place - although if they lose, they play County, Rangers then Hamilton. Can't see them somehow getting into the top six, with the Hot Potato.

Most likely option for me is Motherwell keeping it tomorrow night, giving it to Hibs on Saturday, and Hibs failing to win in Perth. Hibs then play Livingston in the last pre-split game, which would guarantee a top six finish.

Looking at the fixtures, I think the only 2 teams at this point that can't possibly have it at the split, are Aberdeen and Dundee United.

I think the least said about this game the better.

Which means we can devote more time to this;

Week 30: Hibernian (0-2 Motherwell (H))

Well lads, we called it. Hibs' first Hot Potato encounter of the season sees them completely and utterly shit the bed, and take a pasting from Motherwell. Every team has now faced the prospect of a Potatoey week, and Hibs are now the only team in the league to lose 100% of these important matches.

The Hot Potato ventures in to the top six for the first time this season, however it can come straight back down on Saturday as Hibs travel to 2021 League Cup winners, and Scotland's undisputed second force, St Johnstone, on Saturday. If the Hibees fail to win that match, they'll have another opportunity to send the Potato to the bottom half the following Saturday when they face Ross County away. If Hibs win in Perth, the Potato will finish in the bottom six.

Although its not likely that we will hold it for 4 or 5 weeks, that would be real diddy behaviour................

Callum Davidson continues to own wee Jack Ross. The Hot Potato pushing to get in to the top six, as are St Johnstone League Cup Winners St Johnstone.

Up next is a trip to the Highlands, as Hibs face Ross County on Saturday. Hibs failing to win this match would almost definitely see the Hot Potato clinch that vital top six spot, as their next match is at the Spaghettihad against League Cup Runners Up Livingston. If they win, it will finish in the Bottom Six.

Some very dubious refereeing ensures the Hot Potato will finish the season in the bottom six, with Ross County travelling to St Johnstone on Saturday. Obviously St Johnstone can still just about make top six, but that would mean beating Ross County.

On a very happy note, every team has played 32 games, and we are at week 32 of the Hot Potato. With all the rearranged/postponed games, I didn't think that would happen.

Table Update
image.png.53bd3308bf75a7f5defad5ac27b74731.png

2 sides have 100% records in Hot Potato games, rather surprisingly it is Celtic & Dundee Utd, and not Steven Gerrard's Rangers (That's their full name right?)

Half of the teams in the league have held the Hot Potato at some point. Maximum of 8/12 potentially holding, as Dundee Utd and St Mirren could finish in the bottom six. St Mirren can guarantee a potato-less season by beating Hamilton on Saturday. Aberdeen, Celtic, Livi and Rangers will all have a carb-free year.
