Scottish Premiership Hot Potato 2020/21

Recommended Posts

Well we are back, and back with a bang. And then thanks to Aberdeen, we're not back. But most folk are. So in the words of Micky Mellon, "We go again"

Kicking off this years Hot Potato, as they did last year, Celtic demolish the recipients at Parkhead on flag day. Goals From Frimpong and Klimala, and a hattrick from Edsonne Oduoard seal the points.

Week 1: Hamilton (1-5 Celtic (A))

All eyes on what could be a vital Hot Potato Showdown, even this early in the season as Accies host last years winners losers Ross County.

Yet to be determined if they have named last years Potato Ross and added it to their squad, or if they are content with the 46 Ross's they have already.

The anticipation is killing me.

Week 2: Hamilton Accies (0-1 - Ross County (H))

Billy McKay ensures this week the potato stays in Lanarkshire. Poor thing.

Accies would have had the chance to get rid of it against Aberdeen tonight, but the boys fancied a pint. So no game for the potato this gameweek.

This will undoubtedly f**k things over as next week will be gameweek four but HP week 3, but we will just carry on regardless, meaning it may well go beyond week 38.

But it probably wont, as at this rate, the season wont get that far.

Hamilton's next game is now at home to St Mirren on Saturday.

Like Ann Budge clinging on to hope of reconstruction, Accies hold on to the Hot Potato. And like Ann Budge, all hope was obliterated by defeat to Johnathan Jambo-Slayer Obika. He's the hero we needed, wanted and deserved.

Maybe the Energy hope CBD arena stadium tour at New Douglas park (or whatever its called now), isn't the fortress we thought it might be.

Change of scenery for the Potato this week, as it gets to finally leave Hamilton (for the afternoon at least) as it gets a trip to... Motherwell. Poor thing.

Finally, a Lanarkshire derby with something on the line.

My money is on the hot tattie staying in deepest, darkest Lanarkshire until Saints go there, and contrive to give 3 points to a Hamilton side who'll probably be bottom on zilch.

Saints don't go there until week 11, so Hamilton would have to fail to beat;

Motherwell (A)

Rangers (H)

Livingston (A)

Kilmarnock (A)

Dundee United (H)

Hibernian (A)

Wouldn't be at all surprised if they didn't. Equally they'll probably win 5 of them.

I'd like to think that Accies are one of those teams that burst coupons on a very regular basis.

Well well well...

Accies leave the Hot PotatoTM in Motherwell thanks to Hakeem Odoffins late winner.

Perfect timing, as Motherwell play host to Glentoran on Thursday, giving the Hot Potato it's first sight of European football.

It won't count towards the Hot Potato Competition though, this isn't some stupid cross-border tournament. Sorry Tunnocks.

For the second time already this season, the Hot PotatoTM leaves Parkhead with the visiting team.

Goals from Forrest, Ajeti & Jullien send it back to Fir Park promptly.

Motherwell bottom of the league, the only (domestic) winless team in the country, and in possession of the Hot Potato. Where did it all go wrong?

Week 5: Motherwell (0-3 Celtic(A))

Doesn't matter, they'll surely get rid of it this weekend at home to the Super J's. Callum Davidson has said they are looking to bring new faces in.

The culturally-sensitive posters among us know that the European version of this esteemed competition, Le Patate Chaude, now resides in East Belfast until the recommencement of the NIFL in October. Your 'Hot Potato' is null and void until further notice.

I suppose I can't just ignore this much longer. Currently possessed by St Johnstone Nil.

Might as well add week 9 just now as well, as there's no way Saints beat Celtic on Sunday. Unless they discover that the Hot Potato can play up front

Bet the tension has been killing some of you waiting for this... Time for an update;

Unsurprisingly, Saints failed to beat Celtic at Home. They did however then travel to Hamilton and finally score a goal. Then 4 more.

Currently with Hamilton Accies, as Covid FC had to call off another game. I thought Paisley had built up immunity to this kind of thing.

Week 9: St Johnstone (0-2 Celtic (H))

Week 10: Hamilton Accies (3-5 St Johnstone (H))

Hamiltons next game is a trip to Ibrox. Rangers in incredible form, Hamilton struggling at the foot of the table.. There's only one way this goes isn't there?

Apologies for the delay - I've only just finished laughing.

Unsurprisingly, Rangers' relentless home form continued, and Hamilton Accies left Ibrox with a skelped arse and the Hot Potato after an 8-0 hounding.

We could include the League Cup in this and Hamilton couldn't even get rid of it v Stranraer. And they're really shite.

Next up for The Accies is a trip to Tannadice.

Little update as I'm bored at work

Aberdeen, Dundee Utd, Hibs & Kilmarnock have not been involved in the drama of a Hot Potato fixture.

Hamilton, Livingston, Motherwell, Rangers, St Johnstone and St Mirren have all sent opponents home with the Hot Potato once.

Ross County have sent it away twice.

Leading the way are Celtic, leaving teams with custody of the Hot Potato on three occasions

Of the 11 fixtures so far, 9 teams have lost without scoring.

6 times has seen a visiting team win and therefore leave the Hot Potato where it was previously. The other 5 were obviously visiting teams leaving with possession of the Hot Potato.

All 11 fixtures have seen a victor, none have been drawn.

Potato PossessorsTM have scored 4 goals (All Hamilton, 1 at Parkhead and 3 v St Johnstone), and conceded a whopping 30. (Hamilton 20, St Johnstone 6, Motherwell 4)
