Does this week mark the start of the torch being passed from Ronaldo and Messi to Haaland and Mbappe??

Didn't see Mbappe last night but Haaland has been superb tonight. Loving the serial killer look he's cultivating as well.

The 'manager needs time' is a hugely overused phrase but in Barca's case it is absolutely true, they have been in decline at that top level for years. Their problem is they have appointed a manager with no track record so to trust your biggest rebuilding job in decades with a guy like Koeman is a massive risk. Messi is the other issue, he doesn't want to be there and even if he did, he's 33, you can't rebuild your next team around him. If he stays they are going to be stuck in between setting up a team to get the best out of an ageing Messi, and trying to rebuild a team in it's own new style. As brilliant as he is I think they should have sold him last summer and got a proper manager to do a rebuilding job, it would have been one step back to go two forward. As it is, come the end of the season they will be a year on from the Bayern defeat with Messi a year older and the team no closer to a rebuild.

Barcelona's troubles started when they sold Neymar and they absolutely blew the money. Dembele and Coutinho are possibly the 2 worst signings in history when you take into consideration their cost. With the 222m euros they could have paid off any debt, bought 2-3 of the best young players around and still invested loads into their youth system (which is one of the best in Europe and seems to be bearing fruit again this season).

Mismanagement of catastrophic proportions.

Those new quarantine rules for footballers in England are interesting. They have to "isolate" for 5 days when they come back from abroad. They're only allowed out the house for training and matches during that time. Might not cause much of an issue just now with nothing open but some of the clubs will still be in Europe come April/May plus the international break at the end of March.
Not a chance those rules will be strictly followed as the rest of society opens up.
