Almost like hiring a failed Everton manager was the wrong choice to turn Barcelona around.

I was saying this, they got rid of Valverde which you can maybe understand as they were stagnating somewhat. But they bring in a stop-gap in Setien who was well out his depth and then get rid of him and bring in Koeman who was an abject failure at Everton, possible being seen as another stop-gap. Say what you what about Valverde but there is no chance his team would go down like they have against Bayern and now PSG.

Would bet big money that Alba, Busquets and Pique will all still start their first Champions League game next season. All totally done.

Pique literally just back from a serious knee injury and was in very good form before it. Busquets and Alba do look done though and it's becoming more and more obvious that Lenglet is not good enough for this level. Dest looks worse than Nelson Semedo somehow as well.

Absolutely sensational night for young Mbappe

Genuinely mental you see English folk claiming Rashford is anywhere near his level.

Offloading Suarez instead of that dud Dembele was another hilarious decision during the summer. Not only have they kept an inferior player but they would've got much more of a fee into the bargain.

Imagine someone at that club deciding they'd replace Luis Suarez with Martin Braithwate. Arguably the worst number 9 they'll ever have.

It looks like one of those appease the fans type appointments to bring in a club legend to get them onside. Pretty much always backfires as you just appoint someone who either has little or no experience (Lampard), someone who just isn't a good manager (Lennon) or someone with a bad track record (Koeman). Everton gave him a massive budget and he brought back nothing to show for it - just how did they think he has going to do at a club with an aging squad and well-publicised financial problems? A dismal appointment for many reasons.

Granted Suarez didn't help the aging squad issue given he's 33, forcing one of your best players out the door whilst holding onto Dembele was quite a call. Unsurprisingly, it's backfired spectacularly.

They should let Messi go and chuck the sink at getting Mbappe in in 2022 when his contract is up.

I still can't get over that signing. He sounds like a Luton Town benchwarmer.

Was just thinking that mate. The English media compare them cos both have ‘pace to burn’ 😂. Fucking clowns.

Aye. Looking at Mbappe as just pace is wild aswell, hes one of the most complete players you'll ever see already.

Scary how good he, and Haaland are, for their age.

TBF they apparently tried to punt Dembele, but his mega-wage and shite attitude meant nobody would go for him. One of the "legacy" issues you come across when your clubs a fucking mess.

Agree on the second point.

Build around Puiq, De Jong, Pedri, Trincao and Fati next season, push for Mbappe with everything you have. That'll carry them for a decade.

They have to go for Mbappe or Haaland. I suspect they'll get neither.

Aye. They'll sign Depay this Summer, hand him a mega 5 year deal, and be utterly fucked when he flops under the pressure.

They've apparently got another batch of youngsters coming through just now, guess it'll just need a manager who can use them.

They’ve being playing Mingueza at RB in the league and the lad has not looked out of his depth.  Koeman playing Dest to justify bringing him in.

The Valverde that saw his team go down 3-0 to Roma and 4-0 to Liverpool despite having 3 goal leads to defend in each tie?

Koeman was obviously a stupid appointment, but they have greater issues than him. That's now 5 years in a row where any top level side Barcelona have faced has resulted in at least one hammering across the 2 legs, and it's only 6 months ago that they lost 8 goals to Bayern.

The 'manager needs time' is a hugely overused phrase but in Barca's case it is absolutely true, they have been in decline at that top level for years. Their problem is they have appointed a manager with no track record so to trust your biggest rebuilding job in decades with a guy like Koeman is a massive risk. Messi is the other issue, he doesn't want to be there and even if he did, he's 33, you can't rebuild your next team around him. If he stays they are going to be stuck in between setting up a team to get the best out of an ageing Messi, and trying to rebuild a team in it's own new style. As brilliant as he is I think they should have sold him last summer and got a proper manager to do a rebuilding job, it would have been one step back to go two forward. As it is, come the end of the season they will be a year on from the Bayern defeat with Messi a year older and the team no closer to a rebuild.
