AsimButtHitsASix
Why do you need to query the viewing habits of anyone who makes an opinion on matters of football in a football forum? There is a tacit acceptance that we all watch football and discuss the football we watch. I'm not, for instance, commenting on player ability in the West of Scotland League forum or the Swiss football thread. If we had to forensically request exact viewing habits of every person who commented that'd be an absolute nonsense. The lunacy here is not from me dingying yer daft and insulting queries but you asking it at all. I "strung it out" because I know fine well that a: unless my answer is practically every game both teams have played in the last few months you will deign it unworthy anyway and b: you would then demand to know exactly what games I watched. But, whenever yer ready, please list every full 90 minute match you have watched featuring Aaron Hickey before we continue so I can decide if you are worthy of querying my opinion. After ye've apologised for your incorrect assumption.
2426255
My query is not a personal attack, it's just to get an idea of the basis for your opinion. I haven't watched any full matches involving Aaron Hickey post Hearts which is why I have refrained from making comments in this thread and was seeking information from a good quality source with the playoffs coming up. I've obviously got under your skin for some reason, but my advice is to chill out as life's too short. -
AsimButtHitsASix
He's good. He's really good. He's a better all round player than Robertson was when he went to Hull. He's good going forward, obviously, but he's less of a "hit the byline and cross" full back. He will come inside and play and keeps possession well and is just as comfortable with either foot as well but he's decent defensively. Sometimes gets beaten a bit easily but that'll come. Bologna have kept a fair number of clean sheets this year and he's been a part of that. Presuming he doesn't f**k it up or get injured he will go to a big team sooner rather than later. As much as he's played on the left he could easily do the same job on the right as well. He could proabably do a job in the Tierney/McTominay role of wide central defender who comes out with the ball as well. Brentford, however, are a lower mid-table EPL team. A move from a lower mid-table Serie A team to them is a move sideways. There might be other arguments about how it could help his career progression for various reasons but he's getting game time, and playing well, in a strong league and, within a year or two he will be the type of player who would laugh off an approach from Brentford whereas, if he goes there now, he'll be stuck there for two years, minimum, rather than playing in Europe for a big team.

I haven't seen Brentford or Bologna at all this season because neither have any current National Team players so have been focusing on Norwich and a couple of other teams. How does he compare to what Brentford currently have? Is the role he would be asked to perform with Brentford similar to what he is doing at Bologna within the broad Wing Back title or would he be required to adapt to fit their system? AsimButtHitsASix
Only saw Brentford v Villa and bits of Man U v Brentford and he seems like he'd be a good fit for them. He'd be a good fit for any team. He's been best as a left wing back with three in central defence which is what Brentford were going with. He played in a far more defensive minded role in the first game I saw this year v Atalanta and was fine as an old school left back as opposed to wing back. He's not so specialised that teams need to fit around him.

AsimButtHitsASix
Probably, aye. Couldn't even name the guy who plays LWB for Brentford so he's not made that much of an impression on me. Mind you if I wasn't keeping an eye out on Hickey specifically would he have stuck out for me in Bologna games? We'll never know.

He's a quality player but he's not shown that he'd fit into a team that asks their full/wing-back to hold their width and provide crosses (I know you've already mentioned this). I still think he's better suited to being a full-back in most teams, but I can't say I've paid much attention to Brentford's wing-backs.

Ah to be fair that's true but do many clubs using wing backs still expect their wing backs to hit the byline and cross anymore? That particular formation seems more about packing the midfield. Clubs where the full/wingback provide width seems more likely in a flat back four. I'm sure there's exceptions mind you. It's a good point tho'. I don't think he could do what Robertson does at Liverpool, for instance.

I had a quick look and to provide a basic idea. The majority of the season their LWB has been Rico Henry (24), but for some reason I haven't determined he has dropped out of the team for the past few games and the starting LWB has been alternated between Sergi Canos (24) and Dominic Thompson (21). craigkillie
He's barely touched the ball all game - definitely nowhere near as involved as he is on the other side. To be expected in a position he's literally never played before.
bleedingums
Yeah, he’s been pretty quiet and it seems like Verona have been targeting him but I wouldn’t say he’s been that bad. Bit of a compliment from his manager, trusting him to make the switch.
