East Region Juniors

All we need is for the North juniors to get on board, possibly join the pyramid and go a little bit senior - we'll have chaos on here with some people ! At least some different grounds for me to visit, don't get over to the EOS or North on my travels, something to look forward to. Enjoy the grade, watching the same clubs in the new league.

The north region are supposed to be on the verge of becoming a tier 6 feeder as part of the SJFA, while the WoS apparently can still be represented on the SJFA management committee if they want to be, which I suspect might turn out to be the case if they vote in all the old west region officeholders. This junior vs senior thing probably has no neat clear cut resolution in other words.

All the SJFA really does is in the larger scheme of things is run the junior cup. If the dueling banjo types in the southern portion of West Lothian can ever get around to resolving their feud it might be good to see humpty dumpty put back together again in terms of having a national cup rather than the south challenge cup, which doesn't seem to quite capture the public imagination in the same way.

That is correct, but it is unlikely that they will take up that option.

I'm sure you realised that your post would invite the usual suspects to respond to tell us how bad junior football is, and that it's much better to be in a pyramid system that is setup to make promotion difficult if not impossible. They didn't disappoint.

The last three winners of the EOS - who were the top 3 teams in the 2016-17 East Superleague - have all been promoted to the Lowland League.

Keep living in your West Lothian bubble though.

Back in 2016-17 Harthill Royal were in Abeyance. Pumpherston, Stoneyburn, and West Calder were in the South Division. Armadale were getting relegated to the South, Whitburn were avoiding the same fate. And Fauldhouse were getting relegated from the Super league.

Which is why they might be happy enough where they are and only have to worry about challenging for a title amongst themselves.

Would be a good move to create a cup for the now enlarged senior leagues - the junior cup is on its knees, whilst the Scottish Cup only rewards one or two clubs. Some of the various league cups must be close to going under, or put on hold for a few seasons now.

There already is: the South Challenge Cup.

Does that have the same power, attraction,  as say, a national non league cup for all leagues outside the spfl ? Only an idea .

It's already a very strong competition encompassing SOS, LL, EOS.   The HL have their own competitions and I'm not sure they would be that interested tbh especially with the increased travel that would be required.

Have a read back on the multiple threads about this. Clubs up north have no interest. It's duplication of what the Scottish Cup offers. Unless there's suitable prize money, clubs will lose money playing in it, just like the Junior Cup.

The perfect pyramid! Just like the ones next to the M8! They know their place! Watching everyoine else going backwards and forwards!

Does such a thing actually exist? How much of the attraction around the Junior Cup was ultimately nostalgia and a great day out on Final day when almost every league senior & junior had wrapped up their seasons.

Being in the pyramid allows a greater mix of clubs to enter the Scottish Cup. For the vast majority that will give them the same experience of a big day out in the early rounds. Then the South Challenge Cup gives the same experience as a National non-league cup from a competitive point of view. While people will say the SCC isn't the same, its not really had the chance to show where it stands nowadays. 2019-20 had 70 clubs in it and if 2020-21 gets played in a traditional way there's 144 clubs in it. Its not the same competition anymore.

The idea of a national non-league cup would really need the support of the SFA to get off the ground.

The SFA's North Challenge Cup died a very quick death when the cash ran out. HFL also has a chokka fixture list what with all their cups.

Combination of money running out. It basically matching the existing Highland League Cup as a competition. Plus heading into what would be the final year the league was dealing with a number of applicants kicked off by Formartine United's early intention to apply for the 2009-10 season.

Maybe if Formartine had been the only club to apply it could have carried on as the jump from 15 to 16 would largely mean the same calendar. But once it was clear they were going back to 18 there really was no point in it. As not only did that create 4 more rounds to be slotted in league fixture wise, it added another round to the Highland League Cup.

There's only so many Saturdays and they are at a premium considering the type of travelling that has to go on to make the Highland League work.

Agree that the HL and NCL are unlikely to ever be a factor on this, but think the key point is that participating in both the SJC and SCC is unlikely to be sustainable long term for the 50 or so west region clubs that are still in the SJFA.  Either the SJC is going to slowly shrivel up and die or humpty dumpty will be put back together again where a nationally-branded cup is concerned.

There is no need to even add an extra round if the remaining east and north region clubs were integrated into the SCC under SJC branding. That would be the common sense solution, if people in the southern portion of West Lothian could bury the hatchet and finally move beyond the senior vs junior thing in the way that happened in the west region and should be happening soon in the north region. Not holding my breath on rational thought being the prevailing approach on this though...

As usual the pyramid geeks who stink this place out have engulfed another thread a thread that was designed for anyone who has an interest in east region junior FOOTBALL somewhere to have a say on football matters a place to converge on a JUNIOR FOOTBALL FORUM no matter how few or how many.

Its the mentality of we wont let you discuss enjoy or have an interest in anything that doesn't play along with our rules and beliefs.

Dozens of pyramid threads yet they cant leave this one just one alone.

No wonder very few actual pure week to week grassroots supporting football fans post on any of this sites non league forums anymore.

Take Bo'ness and Lithgae out of the equation and there were never that many posts about the east on here in the first place. Most east junior clubs even at superleague level tended to have relatively small core supports given how many SPFL clubs also tend to be close by.

Forfar West End vs Forfar Athletic or Sauchie vs Alloa? Most potential supporters that don't travel to watch a larger full-time club elsewhere chose the latter option locally as the fitba's a wee bit better. Beyond that how many posts would you realistically ever expect about glorified amateur clubs like Syngenta, Harthill, Stoneyburn or West Calder?

There have always been very few posts about the north as most north stuff gets posted on Fitba North. Even on Fitba North though interest in junior football is close to non-existent because who is going to follow Forres Thistle rather than Forres Mechanics or Glentanar rather than Aberdeen? Almost nobody.

This subforum always tended to be west dominated because there is still a decent level of interest in a significant number of clubs there. They are all away to the WoS subforum now. There still seems to be plenty of life in that, so nothing much has changed in the big scheme of things from what I can see.

Because you don't have an interest in junior football you are only interested in trolling

Whatever your name is today, I realise you love the Junior game, clubs, grade etc, and have been following that for years. The West clubs made a decision to move into senior football, progression, the same clubs exist at the same grounds. The east/North juniors are still going next season, get along and enjoy the games. Some of your comments are born out of real desire for the grade,I admire that- but the almost hatred of senior football ,for whatever reason,is way over the top, worrying 😨
