St. Johnstone v Aberdeen (The Massey-Ferguson Main Event)

Recommended Posts

Club fine, which in turn they will pass onto the relevant players. It's crazy talk to suggest a default 3-0 win for St Johnstone though. I understand why their fans would be clamouring for it though, as it may be one of the few wins they get all season.

Game called off at request of Scottish Government.

Well if the gvmt say the game has to be called off I'd say that Aberdeen have a case to say they could have fielded at team and avoid a penalty.

However, I'd say the door is still open for the football authorities to levy some form of slap on the wrist. I'm sure they can find a rule if they are so minded.

The heaviest burden has to be on the players (assuming they did in fact break the distancing guidelines).

Talk that she'll enforce a lockdown on matches again, not just for Aberdeen but for everyone.

She's been fucking desperate to make an example of Scottish football, she's hates the game. This is her chance and she won't miss.

SNP trying once more to deflect from their piss poor response to Covid 19, we've performed worse than Norn Iron and Wales ffs.

Talk by whom?  Sturgeon knows the economic impact of football, in particular big games, on the local economy.  You honestly think her master plan in the middle of a Covid driven economic crisis is to destroy Scottish football?

8 players are isolating, 6 after having close contact with those who have tested positive.

There has been no confirmation whether all 8 were out socialising or if this close contact has been as a result of training with 1 or 2 who had chosen to venture out.

Anything other than the number of positives and number isolating at the moment is pure speculation.

But let's not let facts get in the way of sensationalism, right?

There's Nicola Sturgeon also saying 8 players went to a pub on Saturday night, and didn't adhere to social distancing.

You and @Marshmallo will still claim they caught the virus going to the shops and theres no proof they were at a pub.

Tbf I don't think Nicola Sturgeon would announce at a press conference that it's clear these players were at an Aberdeen bar off of a few Twitter rumours.

How many games was it the Englishers, and other countries for that matter, managed during the pandemic?  Scotland managed one before making a Shereen of it.  Awesome.

Do we not have the same rules about players self isolating when they're not training or playing? Thought that was standard to allow the elite sports exemptions.

Not exactly a vote-winning policy either.

She won't lock it down again, the backlash from fans would see her popularity (which is waining) reduce even further, no ways she risking her power.

She's right to cancel this game and use her authority to do so, but unless there is a number of these incidents, using one isolated case to cancel the season isn't going to happen.

It's times like this I'm glad Liam Craig is still at saints, given he's head of the players union or whatever it's called, he'll have drummed it into saints players to behave, well that along with the threat of Macca's size 10s!

It's been confirmed that 8 of them were in the pub last Saturday night.

Aye they thought they'd cancel the game because "it'll take attention away from the SNP"

Don't talk total shite.

Edited by Mr Positive, sometimes.

Twitter has went mad with suggestions that St Johnstone should be given 3 points. I’m willing to wager that players from every team have went out.

That's not the issue here, the players are allowed to go out, as are the rest of us. The issue is they've broken government guidelines and flaunted the rules that everyone has to abide by. That's not saying other teams players haven't done the same and haven't been caught, but you can punish hypothetically, you can only deal with an actual committed incident. Hence why Aberdeen are getting it tight from every angle.

It's simple, anyone can go out so long as they obey the guidelines and rules and the places they go to also adhere. Nothing difficult about it, the Aberdeen players have got caught thinking they're above government guidance.

Either:

Aberdeen should be absolutely hammered for their players breaching protocols (and Aberdeen subsequently hammer the players).
or
The SPFL and/or SFA and/or Scottish Government have serious questions to answer as to why such protocols weren't put in place.

I know we're constantly comparing ourselves to England in terms of football, but let's be honest - they had a military-style operation to get things going again. We just seemed to say "aye, we'll test everyone and wear face masks" (which, ironically, is probably all England actually needed to satisfy Boris...).
