Hedgecutter
Bump. I'm looking to get a stove put into our coal fire area, but have a bit of confusion regarding combustible clearance distances. One well-reviewed stove installation guy that I've had around says that we have sufficient space between the firemouth and the wooden mantlepiece to stop it deforming, but these distances are less than those stated the stove's manual. Are the latter (which would require changing and paying much more for a new mantlepiece) 'guidelines', or is this legal legislation which the insurance company would bring up when they look to cover a burnt down house? welshbairn
Seems a bit over the top this as they mention later on that they're safer than an open fire, but maybe worth considering. Quote Wood burners triple the level of harmful pollution particles inside homes and should be sold with a health warning, says scientists, who also advise that they should not be used around elderly people or children. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/dec/18/wood-burners-triple-harmful-indoor-air-pollution-study-finds
Halbeath Raith Rover
Got a Tiger Stove multifuel burner in the living room and it gives a cracking heat. Have used coal, peat and wood at different times and been happy with all. Nothing beats lighting it on a cold winter nights and having a few drinks

Hedgecutter
Anybody here got a Contura i4 Modern stove? I liked the look of it, but the ash pan of the one I recently saw in a showroom jammed and seemed like it would be a pain if that was a common issue. Anybody with one had any issues?

Aye, I particularly like the way it blends in to my home and gives the old fireplace new life.
19QOS19
Has anyone had one of these installed that doesn't have a chimney and what are the requirements? Had planned on getting one down the line but the price of gas and the inevitable rise is making me think I'll get one sooner rather than later.
