Post lockdown pubwatch

Aye I think the booking system will soon be weekends only. I actually think pubs are going to struggle once everyone has had a turn or two of going out for the novelty.

It's just not very good really, in the cold light of day.

Without doubt. No music, no volume on TV. No socialising with other tables.

They're going to absolutely destroy the pub trade.

The pubs I have been in have had music and and a fair amount of distanced interaction with other tables. It's not the same but it's not bad.

Totally agree with this, based on my experiences so far.

The euphoria of those first few pints of draught Tennent's, and the novelty of actually being allowed back into boozers was tempered quite quickly by the reality of the conditions and atmosphere.

Was great to be able to see friends and family to catch up over a few drinks , but in reality I've visited 5 different places which ranged from feeling overly sterile and impersonal, to the other extreme of basically bogging with every rule being flouted.

Will probably be more inclined to go to a restaurant for a meal and few drinks in the foreseeable, where the environment doesn't feel quite so different or weird. Boozers I'm actually in no great hurry to return to until things change a bit.

As much as I like a pint, I’m no I’m any great hurry to go back after Saturday nights experience. Pints were spot on, but the pissed up eejits we’re close to getting slapped and I was the one that needed to calm down apparently. I asked a barmaid, who looked really stressed out how she was coping and she said she wasn’t. I’ll stick to outside or with a meal for now also

That's what pubs are supposed to be like. You're there to drink, not enjoy yourself.

A loss of live music is a problem; a loss of whatever shite radio station/iPod playlist or, God forbid, some two-bob 'DJ set' is not to be missed. In fact, those should be banned permanently now we've had the chance to apply some rules.

Upon looking it up, no. Its to be kept low. Only one pub I've been in put any on (the rest said it was banned).

This was just back ground music. Folk seemed to keep their distance and my local is just like it was before folk sat at the bar no perspex screens etc.

If the staff are happy and folk don't take the piss then I don't see it being a problem but would worry that staff may become super spreaders.

I also was at a pub in Edinburgh yesterday they had visors and masks on and table service and the tables spread out. It felt safe and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

I've been working in a bar post-lockdown and it has been a very mixed bag. We've got a combination of table service and ordering at the bar (depending on where you're sat).

Most customers have been alright at following the fairly obvious rules and they've not kicked up a fuss when you politely remind them to keep seated or whatever. The stereotypical coked-up Invernessian "CORONA AND LIME BUD" wee guy and the VBL Fiat 500 squad have been a nightmare though.

Chapeau to you and your mates, Senor Bairnardo, for managing to beat the system.    😉

Reading about the COVID-19 pub experience on here, the thought of it is pretty unappealing to me. I’ll watch with interest but I’m not going back anytime soon. Hopefully by the time I go back the early birds will have consumed all the foostie lager.

The other thing is people are hesitant to make the effort to go to a pub last minute in case you can't get in.

Angels in Uddingston, for example. You might have had to stand for a bit if you went later on in the day, but pre-covid you'd never not get in to the bar. Now, despite them having extra tables in their car park, it's booked out Friday - Sunday days in advance. No walk in opportunity.

For those that do book early, your night out there is capped at 2 hours at someone else is certain to have booked.

We'd normally jump in a taxi on a whim and head down if we fancied it, but that's not an option now.

I don't imagine the current 'rush' will last, but, for now anyway, it's grim.
