Czech Republic v Scotland

Recommended Posts

The new FIFA rules say:

...the general rules which normally oblige clubs to release players for national team matches should not apply in the following instances:

there is a mandatory period of quarantine or self-isolation of at least five days upon arrival at:

the location of the club which has an obligation to release the player to an association team; or

the location where a representative team match is scheduled to take place;

there is a travel restriction to or from either location (a. or b. above); and

no specific exemption from the relevant authorities relating to the above decisions has been granted to players of a representative team;

The only real issues I can see for us is players who play abroad. Clarke said at the press conference that Russell and Morgan would have to quarantine after returning to the US if they were in the squad. That's not really a major issue though given that they're probably 4th/5th/6th+ choice.
Presumably there aren't any issues with the away Europa League ties or we would have heard about it already.

Czech media reporting Tomas Soucek and Patrik Schick are out of both their games now due to contact with the person who tested positive.

Not the worst news for us.

Just had a look at the national team on Wiki.  Almost the entire squad plays in the CR.  That's quite a difference from the days of Nedved, Poborksy, Baros, Jancker et al.

I suppose their reason results show a team very much in transition.

Another forward and goalkeeper mentioned but I don't know if they're starters.
The Slavia Prague manager said one more positive test and his (6) players pull out.

We’re going to get thrashed by a bunch of 17 year olds again.

Slavia Prague's president has tweeted saying he'll request the withdrawal of his players after tonight's game. Don't know if it's 6 or 8 players after all the squad changes
Google translate says it the "general manager" who has tested positive. Not sure if that means the manager or a higher up.

At what point is the game called as a forfeit?  Obviously in a league there's time to catch up, but there's barely enough time to play these games let alone postponed ones.  Or is it a case of just find enough Czech people to form a team and have at it?

Presumably they can call up players until the day before the game. Not exactly sure tbh.
It was 1 person on Wednesday, another today. It doesn't seem out of the question more will test positive in the coming days too.

Even if Slavia players pull out, that's only Masopust, Bořil and Coufal from tonight's starting XI (granted Provod and Ševčík came on later). Czechs were streets ahead of Slovakia tonight and were convincing winners, and the Sparta players up top (Hložek and Dočkal) have looked excellent since Czech football came back a fortnight ago. If Scotland play like tonight we'll get ripped apart.
