David Syme transferred from Buffs to Darvel for club record £12K fee confirmed on Buffs social media. The tapping saga ends thankfully. Could be your club next.

Fair play to Kilwinning for announcing the money they got. Sets the going rate the next time they try it with another club.

No doubt the chicken man will be on claiming they missed the decimal point and it was only £120.00

Mate it will be a junior record and 12k for a centre half is disgusting , my dad would be spinning in his grave , fair play to the buffs for saying what the transfer fee was

It's ridiculous at this level.

You can take the punters out the Juniors but ye cannae take the Juniors out the punters.

Dress it up anyway you want, until clubs start moving up the pyramid punters who have been involved for decades will still call it the juniors.

It'll take a long time for people to stop using the "junior" term, and that's not a bad thing as "the juniors" has a long and deep history which a lot of people are very proud of. I still find myself doing it on the odd occasion. But neither team in this transaction can be classed as juniors nowadays as they are not SJFA members, so the transaction is not technically a junior record..

If it's described as a record amount for this level of football and you're asked what level of football is that - what would be the best way to describe it that would make sense. Referring it it Junior football people will understand..

In Scotland, yes people would understand the term. Outside of Scotland people think "junior football" is for kids. It is a uniquely Scottish concept.

Being pedantic Ireland & Northern Ireland use the term. In their contexts junior= amateur which I'd guess was the original meaning in Scotland as the SJFA pre-dates the SAFA. It's a term in English & Welsh football to a lesser degree generally used for 2nd tier county FA cups again with the amateur connotation.

Can’t blame players for making hay whilst the sun shines, however you would imagine any player Darvel are after teams will now be looking for a significant transfer fee and players will be looking for a hefty wage (which no doubt Darvel will deny paying, they only ever wanted to play for the team)

Also for a club with their supposed aspirations, they unfortunately are turning into a fairly obnoxious club, not just in the way they go about their business. Continually see crass comments from the chairman and players on clubs social media pages.

it all has a whiff of something built on a house of cards that will come tumbling down at some point.

Take your pick from non-league, outside of the SPFL, regional, tier 5/6, or WOS-level?

Spot on. The manager, chairman and players are visible on social media, disputing the money at Darvel. Good luck to them, but what they are doing is not sustainable.

Difference with Medda and Buffs is both have decent catchment areas, both clubs have history, so sustainable. Hurlford are at the end of a curve, who knows how they will get on if Hendo moves on. Darvel though, if there's a fall out or the Pieman moves on, what they are doing is unsustainable.

If the guy putting the money in continues to invest in the infrastructure around the club as well as the players then aye it will dip when the wages money goes but at least there will be a foundation there. Cant criticise them for that, lots of clubs at various levels of the game spending money on the park but doing nothing about longer term projects.
