Played and Managed Your Club

Recommended Posts

Who has played for and managed your club since 1945.  Player managers are acceptable.

St Johnstone:

Johnny Pattillo (played 1952-53.  Manager 1953-58)

Alex Stewart (played 1932-35. Manager 1958-60) Think it's the same one!!  As a player, he once scored 6 goals for Motherwell when they humped Celtic 8-0 in 1937. Celtics record defeat).

Alex Rennie (played 1968-1975. Manager 1980-1985).

Ian Gibson (player 1983-87.  Player Manager 1985-87).

John McClelland (player manager1992-93).

John Connolly (played 1968-1972. Manager 2004-05).

Owen Coyle (Player Manager 2005-07).

Derek McInnes (played 2007-08. Player Manager then manager 2007-11).

Callum Davidson (played 1994-98 and 2011-14. Coach 2013-18. Manager 2020-?).

There's maybe more, but that's 8 definite,  possibly 9 depending on Alex Stewart.

Would imagine Dundee United and Celtic will probably have a fair few.

Come at me bitches.

Just off the top of my head?

Goodwin (current, obvs)
Gary Teale
Gus MacPherson
Iain Munro (for about 5 days!)
Tony Fitzpatrick (three times!)
Jimmy Bone
(edit) Alex Miller

I might have missed someone out, and those are from the 80's to modern day, bound to be a few before then.

Will stick to the ones from the time that I was actually alive.

Lee McCulloch - Played one game for us, was subbed before half-time and immediately retired. His time as manager was similarly brief.

Gary Locke - Really disliked him as a player because he was on a big wage and was never fit. Disliked him even more as a manager because he was useless.

Allan Johnston - Had a bit of an Indian summer in his playing career with us, moving inside to be a central midfielder rather than a winger. Was fairly excited about him as a manager but his teams ended up being dour, defensive and not very good.

Bobby Williamson - Before my time as a player, but was generally pretty good from what I gather. Very successful as a manager.

Tommy Burns - A club legend as a player/manager - dragged us back to the top flight after years in the doldrums.

Alex Miller wasn't a player for us.

You've missed Willie Cunningham, Tommy Bryceland, Alasdair Miller, Wilson Humphreys, Jim Clunie, Jack Ross

God being Alex Ferguson?  Didn't realise he played for Aberdeen.

Its Mark McGhee isn't it?

God is Willie Miller.

I don't think Ferguson ever played for us.

1/2 ain't bad

Who's played for you that you wouldn't mind turning up in the dugout at some point? Michael O'Neil would be the front runner for us, a big plus being that he has little in the way of reputation as a player to tarnish.
