I can remember when the highlight of some games was when an outfielder had to replace an injured goalkeeper, who for some unexplained reason, would always then play on the wing. Bizarre. Maybe why they introduced sub goalies first?...
Tony Wonder
Hope it's voted against, kind of got it for an interim idea in leagues that resumed and played a lot in a short period, but for a full season? Nah.
Radford
Going on the comments from Callum Davidson, coupled with a likely fear from the chairman that he'll need a bigger squad, my instinct would be that St Johnstone will vote against this. Quote “I don’t understand the idea of having five substitutes in Scotland,” he said. “I don’t get the logic behind that. I don’t think we have to tinker with the subs rule. “I understand why it’s there in the Championship in England because they are cramming games in Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday for a five-week period. “Up here it will only help the clubs with bigger squads. “Using five subs could disrupt a team. It depends on who you have on your bench I suppose. “But some clubs are going to struggle to fill the bench with first-team players. “I think we have to get back to normality as soon as we can.” Folk saying it'll help youth development, more likely it'll mean clubs holding on to guys that could otherwise be out on loan.

btb
How long is the time added on for substitutions these days (30 secs?) - depending on how quickly the ground empties I sometimes find it tight to get to the station for the train from Paisley to Ayr (3pm Saturday game) - I may have to stay out for a few drinks more often. I feel a bit of nostalgia for the old days,10 minute half times and games finishing by quarter-to-five more often than not.
ropy
Not particularly in favour but I assume there will only be 3 substitution slots i.e. they can’t stop the game more often, half time changes wouldn’t count as one of the three slots.
tamthebam
5 subs give you all kinds of flexibility. You could have 4 footballers and a "specialist": Scenario: The Rangers/Celtic are drawing 1-1 at, say, Pittodrie and it's the 90th minute. They put in their 5th sub, Tom Daley, who gets into the Aberdeen box and.. Scenes.
craigkillie
This has been approved by the Premiership clubs. Nine subs can be named, five used, in three different substitution windows.
