Cancel culture

Recommended Posts

Going right back to the OP of this thread, ICTChris mentions Noam Chomsky being criticised in what became known as the Faurisson Affair. I knew nothing of it prior and have since only read the relevant Wikipedia pages. It's a bit of a weird one from Chomsky, is my initial impression. Anyone have thoughts on it?

Someone described receiving a thumbs up as "hurtful" and that he had to soul-search to persuade himself he wasn't being attacked by the other person.

FFS. What is wrong with these people. 😂

It It'd been thumbs down they'd be hanging out the loft by now.

Not so sure about that TBH. Some of the humanities departments at universities across the UK and the US are certainly going through an awful lot of cancellation of some staff on all sides of particular debates. Some of it driven by student organisations and some driven by other academics. Many of whom just seem to have taken it upon themselves to declare what is acceptable and what isn't.

I'm glad I'm out of all of that.

Students having liberal ideals?!

The world’s gone mad.

Todays students will be tomorrows gammons and so the circle of life continues

It's all that right-wing indoctrination they're exposed to.

Cancel Culture does exist but I dont recall any of these c***s having much to say about Colin Kaepernik or trade unionists being blacklisted from the construction industry.

Of course it exists, and always has. Mary Whitehouse loved cancel culture.

David Cameron tried to ban adults from accessing porn unless they opted in.

The government were recently arresting people for holding blank pieces of paper.

The circular nature of cancel culture, is that those complaining about it are seeking to cancel the voices of those criticising them.

Allow free speech, and allow reactions and consequences to that free speech. Should some w****r like Tommy Robinson be prevented from having a blog online?

Absolutely not, assuming someone wants to host him, but he should also expect criticism for his moronic, racist views.

The right wing who complain about cancel culture so vociferously are desperate to cancel the views of people they disagree with.

Call them out on it.

He's a magician, it wasn't a real knob. If it was he'd have been arrested and charged by now.

Remember the good old days when it used to be white doves they'd magic out of their pockets? He didn't do himself any favours in the fake knob department anyway...admittedly I was maybe eight or ten rows back, but it looked like a wrinkled two-incher.

Magic is the last thing I'd describe it as.

I'll be seeing him for the first time tomorrow night but from what I've heard much of his schtick is about hating himself, so it would fit in to give himself a tiny and wrinkly fake todger.

I went to one of his shows where he did the same act. It did look a lot like a real knob.

JK Rowling has been cancelled now?

That's huge. The logistics of taking her books off the shelves alone are unfathomable.

Couldnt come at a worse time with Robbie Coltrane dying and people wanting to watch Harry Potter and now with no way to do so.

It's likely that part of why Graham Linehan's lost his mind is because he's the only one that seems to have suffered due to bitterly ranting about toilets and genitals.

Hopefully he eventually works out that it's primarily because he's so unpleasant to be around, even for people who might have reservations about trans rights.

You can get cancelled for saying that women’s gender is defined by biology.

Just ask Julie Bindel or the abuse taken by JKR.

JKR is no shrinking violet, she seems more than happy to fight about anything and everything online - she'd love P&B.

I’d never heard of Julie Bindell so I looked her up. In the last week she appears to have been published in the Guardian, the Spectator and the Mail. Please explain “cancelled “

Can’t recall the exact details but she was deplatformed from speaking at a university.

Strange as she is a lesbian feminist. You would have thought that would have ticked quite a few boxes.

Must have been quite a shock for DPB to discover that being part of a minority doesn't necessarily mean that the hated liberal lefty institutions will bend over backwards for you!
