Must be loads of people who have interesting knowledge and perspectives to share that we wouldn't have access to without anonymity.

A few years ago, I was very active on a local forum. It was a fun, social group and many of us formed on-line friendships. Some knew each other in real life too and often met up for barbecues, Superbowl parties and so on. It was around the time of the Bush/Blair Iraq invasion and even though this is a predominantly Republican area, there were a few Liberals on the site who were willing to make their voices heard. There was a lot of back and forth on the Political section and things often got heated. However, it never strayed beyond on-line arguments. Whenever we met in real life, political discussion was banned and the friendships crossed party-lines without a problem.

Then the original owner of the site retired and gave up the management to one of the administrators, who happened to be a hard-core Tea Party supporter. Within weeks she'd installed  some of the ugliest, most rabidly right-wing forum members as moderators and the site went downhill fast. Before long, all the most active posters, liberal and conservative, drifted away and the forum became an echo-chamber of Bush supporters arguing about who of them hated liberals most.

During the fun days, when we had all the social events, it had been common for some folks to post photos of the gatherings on the forum, identifying people by their user names. All innocent enough, right? Well, about a year after I'd stopped posting, someone must've scoured back through them and recognised me. Maybe they'd seen me out walking my dogs, or otherwise out and about in the neighbourhood. They then posted a photograph of my house...my fucking house complete with address on the forum with the caption "Here's where an America hater lives."  Fortunately, a friend alerted me to it but despite this being a gross violation of the site rules, it took me over a week to get the moderators to delete the post, and only then after I threatened legal action. Someone must also have recognised my wife because shortly afterwards she came home from the supermarket in tears after some little Republican shit had accosted her in the car park, and shouted, and I quote "Tell that asshole of a husband of yours he should f**k off back to England if he knows what's good for him." She didn't even have an account on the forum.

I never did find out the identities of the twat who posted the photo, or the shit who went after my wife. They may or may not have been the same person. Fortunately, nothing further happened but I'm still livid about it all these years on. So then when I saw that clip of Johnathon Pie ranting about how liberals were to blame for Trump's election because they "were mean to conservatives"; I would cheerfully have taken out my rage on him.

I think sadly the people mentioned in the first post are far out numbered by the types mentioned in the second.

Pretty sure it was him who tracked down @Bobby Skidmarks and contacted his boss. @8MileBU should know.

I don’t, but what I do know or have at least noticed, is that you‘ve seemed to be far more determined to dredge this up and point the finger of blame for far longer and considerably more than anyone else.

I'm just intrigued by forum mysteries, like did Grimbo set up his own Gofundme site, which was never fully resolved. Thought you believed Bobby made it all up anyway. If it's still hitting a nerve I won't mention it again.

I'm sure I remember Bobby saying that his Twitter account had all his personal information on, so it could literally have been any weirdo that took a powder at one of his posts, not even a regular forum user.

No, it wasn't me.

Was mentioned several times that folk at Spartans set up the fund raiser. Not suiting the P&B narrative at the time, it’ll have been glossed over.

RE the rest, couldn’t care less tbh. I only presumed by tagging me in your previous post you sought a response so I provided one.

Back a dozen or so years ago I was a mod on a F1 forum.  Most of the posters were sort of middle aged History nerd types (many were Dutch) and it wasn't a difficult job until some young English dick came on and was generally just being nasty to anyone who dared to criticize Jensen Button (who wasn't a world champion yet).  Anyways I decided to give him a temporary ban because I was tired of hearing complaints about him, hoping it would make him f**k off.  Instead he just created a bunch of new accounts and started threatening me, eventually he managed to find my address and threatened to mail anthrax or some other nonsense to me.  We banned his IP address (which we considered the nuclear option at the time) and he seemed to go away.

Never got that anthrax

I assume Welshbairn's point was that it became a hilarious joke to constantly ask Grimbo who set up the crowdfunder in order to get him to defend himself.

I got the impression there were a fair few folk mystified about how someone they didn't like ended up with loads of people contributing, when they knew deep down that they'd be getting hee-haw in similar circumstances.

Standfree always seemed a bit keen to obtain personal details about me. Only poster whose behaviour on here toward me was a genuine cause for (albeit mild) concern.

He was an absolutely relentless weirdo.

Think that was virginton. He worked out the travelling time compared to his posting times in a bid to prove he wasn't on the course. Genuinely wouldn't have been a surprise if he'd contacted the lecturers to find out if there was a toothless mature student from Greenock in any of the classes.

Can't remember who tied WaffenThinMint back to some Sims forum, where he'd been banned for being a creepy weirdo, but he really didn't like getting the same treatment. Disappeared from here almost immediately. But he lives on in our private nightmares, and possibly in our wardrobes, waiting for us to go to sleep.

That was me,my revenge for his shit effort to expose me even though I'm not anonymous.

I suppose this is related as I sent a message here on Pies and Bovril to Lionel Wickson who I used to know and play football with (there cant be 2 right?). Turns out it was an assumed name as  the poster is a Dumbarton fan and Lionel played for Dumbarton which if I ever knew I'd forgotten.

Or maybe it really is Lionel and he remembered me as a dick, always possible.

Let us not forget the positive sides of outing people who try to be anonymous online - such as the story of the Celtic fan who joined an Aberdeen forum for some trolling, only to be outed by a moderator as having used his sign-up e-mail address to also sign up to a fart-based porn website.

In 2009 Jensen Button finally overcame his hostile reaction to criticism of any kind and found the motivation to win the F1 championship

Other factors included not being able to access the Internet as well as a horrible Christmas on Gruinard Island, although he refused to explain why he had gone there.

... or maybe not!

Some guy hosted a pretty small forum I used to be a member of on a company server. He even provided a free upload hosting service for the users of the forum (about 40 of us max, rarely new users so we all knew each other for well over 10 years). He ended up pumping one of the girls on the forum, and some other guy went proper mental about it. Uploaded loads of dodgy photos to the server, including his own dick pics, pictures of him spunking over women in magazines and stuff etc. then researched, worked out and contacted the company that the forum was being hosted on. Forum disappeared pretty quickly after that and re-established elsewhere on a free hosting site, but it was never really the same again. Apparently the guy kept his job but it was touch and go for a bit. Guy was only trying to do people a favour.

That's my only experience of doxxing I'm afraid, although I could out @Cardinal Richelieu any time I fucking want, "mate" (if I could ever remember his address)

It was an exam he was sitting, if I remember correctly.

At least nobody on P&B has ever used their job at the airport to get flight manifests and stalk other posters.

That would be a step too far, imho

Aye, that sounds right.
