The issue with advertising provisional friendlies is that it gives an impression that clubs think they just have to wait till the date and then it's "all systems go". That's far from the case unfortunately. Before the Scottish Government and the SFA give the firm green light for games to recommence, the clubs are going to have to have all sorts of protocols in place, protocols which have not yet been announced by the Scottish Government or the SFA. The clubs have been sent a document this week with some guidance and suggestions about what to expect, but these are not the actual legal requirements. But if clubs are announcing dates for games, Nicola Sturgeon and Ian Maxwell could very well just turn round and say "Where's requirements A, D, K, P and W ?" We just don't know at the moment, so until it is set in stone what needs to be done, there is no point in giving the impression that games will be happening before early to mid October.

They have asked clubs to stop advertising and publishing dates for games which may not take place.

What is the big deal if they don't go ahead? I don't understand the uproar about it.

If the Scottish Government don't allow us into the next phase then the games don't go ahead, pretty simple.

People know all of this. They don't need to be treated like weans and given a slap on the wrist when all they are doing is working around the provisional dates that have already been provided.

When Government guidance comes out, and they say you can only play a game if you do X, Y & Z, clubs will know their provisional game can/can't go ahead based on the guidance given. Don't arrange provisional friendlies early, then you could end up without a game IF we get the green light for the provisional dates already provided and most of the other clubs already have games lined up.

Football just wants something to look forward to. Or we could just continue to tip toe around the Scottish Government and be scared to annoy then and continue to be depressed....

They weren't saying don't arrange  - they were saying don't announce.

God bless the SPFL / SPL and in particular Aberdeen and Celtic. The two teams, who have done more than anyone else to endanger the game in Scotland by the reckless action of some of their players get away scott free, whilst everyone else has their training cancelled until August 24th. Bring back Tom Johnston ffs....

WOSL wasn’t due to start till 10th of October at the earliest, it’s now at least 11days later, there is no chance of a full league season being completed, it will become a farce.
There is no reason why the league start would be delayed if training recommences on 24th August.

Surely that would move everything back if they delay things by 10/11 days, if what you are saying was the case why put a date of 10th October?

The problem is that some clubs need to be treated like this, some are still not following guidelines!! They are as much to blame as Aberdeen and Celtic.

It doesn't move anything back. The clubs all started training at different times, some haven't started at all yet. From 24th August to 10th October is 7 weeks, more than enough time for a proper pre-season.

It doesn't change the planning for starting back either in terms of administration. All that is paused is training, and that's only for a week and a half. Everything else in terms of preparation for the season can carry on.
