I remember watching a film called L.A Takedown on BBC2 late one weekend about 20 odd years ago and thinking that it had an incredibly similar plot to Heat. So similar as to be almost an identical film. Turns out that Michael Mann made it 6 years previous to Heat as a pilot for a TV show that never came to be. It's a bizarre experience watching the same film but with TV actors along with Michael Rooker and one of the lesser Baldwin brothers. Slacker
Of the films mentioned so far I'd definitely agree with Blade Runner and Boyhood. Very boring. I'd throw in shouts for the critically acclaimed The Tree of Life and Lost in Translation. The Tree of Life was like watching a screensaver, couldn't actually finish that horseshit film. I've only seen the first one but I'd say John Wick is overrated too. Spoiler Tarantino ranking: 1. Pulp Fiction 2. Reservoir Dogs 3. Jackie Brown 4. Inglorious Basterds 5. Kill Bill 6. Django Unchained 7. Death Proof Not seen the Hateful Eight or Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

I tried watching it a few years ago and got bored after about an hour. I've never went back to it.
Shandon Par
Pulp Brown Hollywood The rest. That's not to slate the rest but they're the three that grab me. Jackie Brown stands out as a bit different as it's an adaption of a fantastic novel so it's a bit tighter than standard Tarantino fare.
Ludo*1
My Tarantino list: 1. Pulp Fiction 2. Reservoir Dogs 3. Jackie Brown 4. Kill Bill 5. Inglourious b*****ds 6. Django Unchained 7. Death Proof 8. The Hateful Eight Not watched Hollywood yet. Thought Hateful Eight was comfortably his worst piece. Like a shite western version of Reservoir Dogs.
BFTD
I take it we're not including Four Rooms on the Tarantino list? Easily his worst, although he wasn't wholly responsible, and it wasn't as bad as I remembered when I saw it again a few years ago. I don't think I've seen a film of his that I didn't enjoy on some level. The lad's certainly an entertainer, even if he does have an alarming fondness for the word "nigger" and an impossibly large collection of foot porn.
Ludo*1
I actually prefer a film he wrote but never directed to any of his other films. That being True Romance.

Don't know if he still does it, but apparently he used to do uncredited rewrites of scripts, like Carrie Fisher and Kevin Smith. The most famous I can remember was the submarine drama Crimson Tide. I've never seen it, but I presume it isn't full of racial slurs and discussions about how John Hughes' films are all secretly allegories for Nazi Germany, so he can obviously rein it in when he needs to.

Strange that he helps Smith considering Smith's strongest point in his writing and directing is his use of dialogue which is undoubtedly something Tarantino also excels in.

Sorry, I meant that Carrie Fisher and Kevin Smith also did/do rewrites of other people's scripts. Carrie Fisher especially had hundreds of (un)credits. A Tarantino/Smith collaboration could be interesting. Would obviously help Kev a lot more these days; I've had Jay and Silent Bob Reboot for a couple of weeks and have been too scared to watch it

His last few non-askewinverse have been bizarre and not something I'm into. His focus on shoehorning his daughter into stuff when she clearly can't act is annoying. He also looks quite ill ironically since he's recovered from his heart attack, lost lots of weight and went vegan. Skin seems like it's made out of leather.

I've got a horrible feeling that it's just going to be another exercise in dragging old characters out into the spotlight and saying, "remember this guy, who was in that film you liked? Ah, good times". Doesn't help that the only bit I've seen was Affleck appearing and reciting his Chasing Amy cereal line again. You get the impression that Holden McNeil ended up with early-onset dementia, and the sight of Jay and Bob just triggers this one line from deep within his memories. Kev's clearly done, and just fannies about with shit that he thinks will be entertaining for him to make, rather than watch. Fair enough, I suppose; he's pretty open about it. We got some quality stuff out of him, once upon a time.

Nah but seriously I get it, it is basically just one big car chase. As one of those probable overreacters (and a bit of a film obsessive) I think I enjoy its simplicity and think the world itself says more than the characters ever could. It is stripped bare though, so it can feel a bit emptier than the hype would've suggested. Edited June 13, 2020 by RossBFaeDundee
MuckleMoo
Cloverfield Watched this for the first time since its release. Pretty much every scene shot in the dark, the shaky camera and the almost constant screaming and shouting meant my head was busted by the end.Maybe I'm just getting old but didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the first time around
