Steve Brown wants a fifth division added, filled with Premiership Colt/B sides, and the HL/LL champions, with only promotion available to Colts from that level.

I can't even begin to describe the lunacy from Steve Brown here. The world has gone fucking mad.

Disgustingly, St Johnstone are one of those.

It makes absolutely zero sense, and is utterly fucking stupid, and I'm frankly embarrassed hes part of the club I support, no matter what good things hes done in the past.
Good idea. A 5th league, full of colts sides. You just have to drop the HL and LL champions, drop promotion and relegation, and call it the Scottish Reserve League. Job done.

Jesus Christ. Surely that defeats the point if they're just going to playing against other Colt Teams every week? Why not just keep the development league and play two friendlies a season with senior sides? Or even better - have a reserve league.

Also surely Saints are a pretty good example of the loan system having worked? Ali McCann, Jason Kerr, Zander Clark, Stevie May and (obviously) Chris Kane all had really successful loan spells and have gone on to become regulars. Guess you could possibly chuck Callum Hendry in there too - even though his loan stint was with an awful Brechin City where I don't think he did too well.

You guys are a strong example of a club bringing through young Scottish players, using the loan system and then playing them regularly in the first team when the time is right.

Yeah, I'm not really sure what his thinking is with it. He says a lot of sensible things but this is just moronic.

Thankfully this seems to have gone away for the moment but Neil McCann was still bumping his gums about this on Sportsound this afternoon. He said that if the of colts were in L2 then (as they won't be loaning players out) the rest of the teams can then loan out their best youngsters to lower league teams. I had a wee look at Dumbarton's loan players over the last five seasons and we've had players from 16 (sixteen) different clubs in that time. The man hasn't got the first clue about football below the Premiership.

When oh when oh when are the MSM going to stop churning out these shite stories?

THE FANS DON’T FECKING WANT COLT TEAMS PLAYING IN OUR LEAGUES!!

How the hell, in the past, did Scotland manage to produce talent like Kenny Dalglish, Jim Baxter, Willie Miller, Jimmy Johnstone, David Narey, Paul Sturrock, Alex McLeish, Danny McGrain etc. without having colt teams?

Because we had an 18 team top league, that’s why. A wee bit more breathing space for teams to blood their youngsters in the top team, ease them into the starting 11 or give them some minutes off the subs bench. This could be done because every game wasn't a high pressure game. There's a lot to be said for having a bigger top league.

The only thing stopping that happening again is self-interest and greed.

Ye can stick your colt teams up yer arse!

Croatia has a 10 team league.

Switzerland has a 10 team league.

Austria has a 12 team league.

There are loads of reasons Scotland is struggling to produce quality youngsters. Claiming its solely down to the number of teams in the Premiership is bizarre at best.

So what are the other reasons that prevent us producing quality youngsters? Why has our national team fallen down the rankings so much since the days when we regularly qualified for the World Cup and the Euros?

Culture and coaching.

Of your two leading clubs, the blue one hasn't produced a decent young player since Dollar were in the Top Twenty, whilst the green signs the sixth best centre back from Werder Bremen on an annual basis. And still they blame us for the state of Scottish football.

Tbf Rangers produced Billy Gilmour, unless you think the age 17-19 is more important than 8-16.

It's incessant now, BBC rumours -

Quote

Former Manchester United coach Frans Hoek is working in partnership with Rangers from the United States and has backed the Ibrox club's idea to introduce a B team to Scotland's lower leagues. (Mail on Sunday)

Oh well, if Frans Hoek backs it.

Surely a better idea for youth development would be two SFA run teams with graduates of the performance school system. Players locked into 2 or 3 year contracts after which players can be picked in a US style draft system with lower placed team getting the first pick etc. Except we know that won’t happen because we know none of this isn’t actually about developing youths for the national team but for the sole benefit of the bigot brothers...

Not sure.

But it certainly isnt because someone like Ewan Henderson isn't getting games against Morton and Alloa.

We produced far more players when all they did was kick a ball about in the street or local park than we have with all these fancy dan academies.
