Just because i've seen people elsewhere complain over a half season. I thought I would have a look at the number of postponements from 17th October 2019 until the season was shutdown.

Purely league fixtures and for those helpfully noted to be for weather related reasons. So Clachnacuddin's ground issues and cup postponements aren't included

Postponed home games would be more relevant if you can be bothered, but as Fort scheduled some of their "home" games at "away" grounds the stats could be hard to verify.

Just noticed that the Lowland League are playing a full season. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but would you guys say rain / bad weather is worse in the Highlands?

Not moaning about a shortened season, if I’m honest I’m just glad we’ve got a confirmed date to look forward to.

Probably but the bigger difference will be that 9 of the 17 clubs have artificial pitches. And for those that don't, most have a nearby club with an artificial pitch that they could use as a backup if there was an end of season backlog of games on an unplayable home pitch.

Weather's worse, travel's greater, and I think entirely grass pitches. So not the greatest combination and why they would want to avoid as many midweek games as possible.

Still got those games played which is the important part. For their 1st postponed game from the lockdown its marked as meant to be played at Banff and they show whenever it was at an alternative venue on a completed fixture. So even if they had intended for an alternative venue, only for it still be postponed, it would be included.

I amended the original post as below. The reason why I went with total games. Is because it shows how a massive backlog can be created even if you can get home games played.

  1. Fort William 11 (9H/2A)
  2. Strathspey Thistle 8 (3H/5A)
  3. Rothes 7 (4H/3A)
  4. Wick Academy 6 (6H)
  5. Bucke Thistle 6 (1H/5A)
  6. Formartine United 5 (1H/4A)
  7. Fraserburgh 5 (1H/4A)
  8. Nairn County 5 (1H/4A)
  9. Huntly 4 (1H/3A)
  10. Forres Mechanics 3 (2H/1A)
  11. Brora Rangers 2 (2H)
  12. Keith 2 (1H/1A)
  13. Turriff United 2 (1H/1A)
  14. Clachnacuddin 1 (1H)
  15. Deveronvale 1 (1A)
  16. Inverurie Loco Works 1 (1H)
  17. Lossiemouth 1 (1A)

I would say the commitment from certain clubs to the welfare of their playing surface is almost certainly worse in the Highlands than it is elsewhere.

We also specialise in organic, free range and plastic free football, since Cove left anyway.

Some idea on how they're looking to arrange the League Cup groups for the season ahead.

Quote

Houston said: “With one round of league games we’re arranging the League Cup in zones so that where there are derby matches, if you’ve had a home derby game in the league, the other team can have one in the League Cup.

“We’re trying to give that opportunity and we’re trying to balance it up because we think it will interest the fans.

“The other part of it means that we can guarantee every club 10 home games a season.

I think this is a reasonable compromise for the current circumstances. Clubs know the league game situation from the outset, so there are no reconfigurations mid-season to cause disgruntlement.

It's a small number of league games, but everyone knows where they stand. A split would mean having to have everyone finished the first round at a difficult point of the season, weatherwise.

Lowland League clubs will be complaining they have a harder title run though. Sucks to be them...
