Erdogan continues to stare down the IMF and the EU over Turkish interest rates. They basically want to give Turkey the Greek treatment and make ordinary Turks bail out EU banks who stupidly lent Turkish banks huge amounts of money. Erdogan being a mad b*****d gangster is telling them to f**k off.

The hilarious thing about this is western financial media ranting that Turkish rates are too low despite the fact that they are 30 times than the UK rate and the EU actually has a negative rate.

China building high speed rail into Laos. Go 40 miles south of the US border and it's bandit country controlled by drug cartels.

Laos is an amazing country. Hopefully they have a bright future ahead.

Would be good if they extend the line into Nong Kai  from Vientiane. Would quite fancy that trip to Kunming.

It's worth noting what terrain that's going through. Yet we still can't sort out Rest and be Thankful...

I would imagine that long term they will be looking to extend it into Malaysia.

As @DiegoDiego points out we are going to be left behind this century.

The transformation I've seen in Cambodia has been mental since China moved in. I was there before covid and Phnom Penh looks like a modern city down by the river side which is a vast improvement but a lot more expensive and Sihanoukville is turning into Vegas with huge hotels and casinos, they also turfed out all the small cheap beach bars and expats. Even Koh Kong at the Thai border has been getting Chinese built casino resorts to attract Thai tourists.

10 dollars for a lobster dinner in Sihanoukville and 4 beers for a dollar back in 2008. Good times.

Siem Reap looks different now as well to when I was there. When we went to Angkor Watt we barely saw any other tourists now it's heaving like Edinburgh Castle.

It's that time to hype Russia invading Ukraine for some abstract reason no one can actually explain.

Every good official baddie needs to be a cunning tactical genius who poses a threat to all decent democracies, while also simultaneously an unhinged lunatic who will carry out completely suicidal acts of stupidity for no reason.
