craigkillie
Stephen McGowan tends to be quite in the know so I'd imagine there's at least some element of truth in this.
AGPar
And closed door football is probably no more viable in the Championship than it is in League 1 and 2, and probably pretty unpalatable for all of these Premier League clubs living for nothing more than their next visit from one of the cheeks. Scottish football should only be restarting when it is feasible for all leagues to do so. No surprise to see this sort of division emerging though, given Doncaster's long-standing hatred of the diddies.
craigkillie
It is entirely reasonable to have a "division" between full-time and part-time leagues, particularly given that the £30m a year Premiership TV deal could be the only major source of income for the sport over the next few months. Defaulting on that TV deal and giving Sky an easy out based on a misplaced sense of unity across the divisions would be a terrible idea which would cost every single club in Scotland a great deal of money.
AL-FFC
Fraser Wishart mentioned in an article the other day that he had heard murmerings of the January start, given he is part of the medical board to the SPFL as a players rep (or something like that).

Passionate
What we all forget is the media do not care a jot about the lower leagues .. We all seem to be hiding behind this media driven vaccine, which will not come, experts are saying, adapt to the virus like we adapt to colds and flus, chickenpox etc... Time to move on and find a new normal, message boards are full of people shit scared to go out the house in case they get taken out by the invisible sniper.... Football players do not deserve any more treatment on testing , shielding etc than the people who have worked all through this pandemic...... Shop workers, service industry .. Scottish Football has an ideal time to change not just leagues, virtual half time draws, virtual season tickets, on line programmes, plenty ways to make money, online match sponsors have a greater chance of advertising online than a board in a n empty stadium, Time to look up guys, S Scottish Football has been dieing for years, you never know this might work but you will have to go out your front door to find out..
Junior Pub League
This has been obvious for weeks now, anyone who thinks we're going to have football with normal attendance from August to May has been deluding themselves. Without reading the article - it was mentioned a few weeks ago that there was a plan to play 2 games a week from February to June in the lower leagues to ensure there actually is a 20-21 season. Loads of clubs do online draws, online programs and online sponsorship. By virtual season ticket I assume you mean a ticket that gives you access to watch games live via a stream? Clubs could do that too, but it isn't viable. Scottish football hasn't been dying for years.

Samsonite
Totally agree with the comments regarding the media & SPFL complete disregard of the lower leagues but unfortunately in reality the article is stating facts, lower league teams in Scotland and im including the majority of Championship teams cannot afford to pay 1. players & 2. the necessary testing that are likely to become a legal requirement without the revenue of gate receipts, food & drink etc. The only option to re-start earlier is if clubs are allowed to let fans into the grounds while complying with social distancing regulations which I believe can be done but if they will be allowed to do that or not is a different matter.

If the Premiership make a go of playing the season earlier, they may well flow that through to the Championship to appease Hearts. I doubt it can work in any part of Scottish football, but who knows.

If we can keep TV money coming into the game which then filters down the leagues it benefits the lower league sides and keeps them going. We need to take a league by league approach in order to safeguard the game as a whole. -
Steven W
Don't know why so many think something magical will happen to this virus when Big Ben chimes at midnight on 31st December. The virus could well peter out a few months before that. Equally it might still be going strong long after that. Surely a simple review every 3 weeks (in line with government) would be far more sense. Imagine sitting in, say, September with no football but unable to play til January cause back in May that's what was decided.

I'm not sure they could afford to meet the likely cost of imposing crowd restriction, staff and player testing even with gate money. If grounds are partially open, the streaming service would be limited to those not able to get in to a ground, how many would that be. It's a bit like summer football, it's a nice idea until you get in to the logistics and cost.

You'll have to forgive me if I don't expect the teams in the Premiership or Championship to demonstrate any more of a "sense of unity" than they have in previous seasons. The Moonster
On the TV deal, is £30m a lot more than what we had previously? If so, has the prize money for each position risen?
