tellyboy Posted August 22, 2021 Share Posted August 22, 2021 “MENTAL” AITKEN BROTHERS PRESENTATION Steve Aitken who was guest of Roselea and the clubs record scorer with over 300 goals was invited to make a presentation to opponents Auchinleck Talbot at the end of yesterday game at Beechwood Park. The sides had met at Links Park in 1987 in the Scottish cup. Talbot were current winners for the previous two seasons and after beating Roselea went on to win it three times. Helping Talbot on the way, Steve was sent off after 20 mins however 10 man Roselea held the holders to 2-2 at HT. Talbot took the lead again shortly after half time then brother Brian Aitken also saw red before two late goals sunk Roselea 5-2. The pair became cult hero’s with the Talbot following and were mentioned in a Talbot Fanzine 3 in a row as the Mental Aitken brothers. Roselea did a fanzine in 1990 and our own Roy Gill caught the day in a Viz like cartoon as part of the Fanzine. Steve Aitken presented Colin Chisholm with a framed copy of the original drawing to add to the Talbot memorabilia. They've only played us in the first game of the season but haven’t played Kilwinning,Darvel,Pollok,Hurlford or Medda? Not even a derby with Cumnock? You should get onto the fixture guy and ask him why he was unable to accurately anticipate the league placings of all the teams after ten games when doing his planning.
