League Reconstruction 20/21 season

It's cost us the best part if £10m to end the league by having to repay the tv companies and give sky loads if free games.

It hasn't. The figures were worked out earlier on in this thread and it is less than half of that. If the league hadn't finished, we would have been due Sky a very large amount due to the new contract starting this season not starting when it should and not having the games they should have had, potentially.

What free games do Sky have? If you mean the BCD games wouldn't they have negotiated the same type of deal if the leagues had some how been able to finish?

That is an interesting assertion, I am sure that you have the calculations to hand in order to back that up.

Even just a picture of the fag packet will do.

This argument only works if you can provide a solution that doesn't cost significant sums of money, or that the £10m you quote is the worst outcome.

Think about this now, don't just say we could've finished the leagues.

They called the league far too early, stupidly quick. As far as I'm aware didn't make people aware of the potential costs of doing so, had they of done maybe they would've waited longer and weighed the cost up against just playing the games.

Sky were meant to have 48 games , folks on other sites say they have 61 as a settlement for the lost games last season. So 13 free games.

So the super duper sky contract which is what all this was about has actually been diluted.

Funnily enough sky have overloaded august with 13 games in what is a dead month now, as they won’t have any English football to show

When would the he's have been played? We are in July and are not allowed by Scot Gov to play games. August 1st STILL isn't confirmed. Clubs are asking for permission from Scot Gov to play friendlies.

When would games have been played?

Is that to cover the League Cup? Who had rights to that for this season?

Aye you are right - stopping professional football was an SPFL / SFA decision, indeed we are back playing now.........................or, in the real world perhaps you can let us know when these matches will take place? The 8 league games Hearts were going to win, and the playoffs?

Even an arsehole can see that - with hindsight - the decisions to halt football were correct, and we still do not have a confirmed start date again, only a pencilled in August ko.

Apart from that, your argument is entirely valid.

I'm not saying we definitely could've played the games but given how much it cost us to end the season do you not think we could've waited a bit longer and looked at the best solution? If they said look its going to cost 5-10m to end the season we might have found a way to convince the government to let us play behind closed doors similar to down south and use what would've been the losses to cover it.

I'm not sure hindsight even suggests it was called too early. In any case it was the simplest way to get clubs access to cash.

Remember the vast majority of clubs were applying pressure to the SPFL to get them prize money ASAP.

Remember in March/April we had no idea when football could be played again, absolutely none. If the SPFL has taken a 'wait and see' approach they would have been correctly hounded even more than they are now.

League cup is premier sports which should have been starting about now. So betfred will probably be on their case as well

Using the hindsight the whole shit fest we have today is tied to the way they tied the vote to getting the cash. Even with hindsight they rushed into a solution and clubs even with that cash are starting to struggle, it's just kicked it down the road a bit. It's not been handled well at all.

Ending the leagues was the way to get the cash. So the clubs you see struggling now would just have started struggling earlier.

The only people publicly arguing your point are brain donors like Chick Young who don't bother to read what actually went on here.

And the alternatives?

Pay out the cash based on positions as they stood ? St Johnstone could have argued that they only needed one match to overhaul Hibs position etc etc etc all the way down - frankly I think we would still have been arguing.

And even if we had decided on that particular shitfest, which clubs would be in the pot for next seasons fixtures, would we again be asking if Hearts should be relegated? Given that................despite your valiant efforts, playing professional sport is currently not allowed and might be back for the beginning of August, how could fixtures be determined for the new - more lucrative - Sky deal without Premiership fixtures?

No being funny mate, but you need to stop believing in Unicorns.

Doncaster and the SPFL board have not handled this fantastically, but tbf they were handed a large and dribbly jobby at the beginning of the pandemic and I am unclear that any of the "solutions" put forward would have us in a better place.

If you dont have cogent arguments, you might as well log back on to JKB.

If you thought the Falkirk fans had calmed down and accepted things, you were wrong.

Conspiracies, lies, fantasy, tears, hoping Raith die and suggestions of donating to the 'just cause' of Hearts and Partick all feature in their thread recently.

We definitely could not have played all the games before the UEFA deadline and before the new exclusive Sky deal, there is no chance at all that could have happened.

The government have been very straight and open about the fact that professional football would not be given any favoritism once lockdown started to be eased, and infact they would be nearer the end of the phases before it was allowed. Right now it's still only a  possibility that games will be played at the start of August.  Which is the deadlines for UEFA and the new tv deal.

The penalty for starting much later on the new sky deal, which is an improved amount than the 2019/2020 season, would be no doubt more severe than the penalty for a shorter season and lower deal we had in the last season. Sky and BT would still have wanted money back even if we were able to finish that campaign as there was a delay, as they have done with the EPL.
