League Reconstruction 20/21 season

14-10-10-10 is on the table now, after almost every solution has been exhausted, and still looks highly unlikely to get through. What makes you think it would have passed 2 months ago?

It is on the table now as a permanent solution and not the temporary option to give some breathing space to talk sensibly .  The reason it probably won't go through now because of all the needless  bad blood which has been spilled  and the irrepairable divisions that has caused.

You think League 2 sides would agree to vote up Kelty and Brora, to then have 3 relegation spots the following season? No chance.

Rather than buying time for a sensible discussion, it would just have caused weeks of debate about what the temporary reconstruction should look like - which of course we had anyway.

And numerous other clubs have voted against other proposals on the basis that they were only temporary. There is just no way that would have passed.

Sorry for the serious point, but -

I think there is a bit of a naive assumption among some Hearts fans that the only Premiership clubs against reconstruction are Ross County, St Mirren  and Hibs.

While we think we know that Rangers and Celtic might be pro change, and Aberdeen seem to be on the fence, there are a lot of other Premiership clubs where the base assumption is that "they will have a slightly lower chance of being relegated so they will vote for a 14 club top division".

I am not so sure this is argument holds much water.

Our chairman came out literally a few days ago saying it's too late in the day for reconstruction, and that he wouldnt vote for one "being forced through for the wrong reasons" anyway.

We've not finished below 8th in over a decade, so expanding the league to "make relegation harder" doesnt hold much weight.

There's still an astonishingly high number of folk who believe that St Johnstone continue to 'punch above their weight', not realising that being an established top league club became St Johnstone's 'weight' a long time ago.

These folk genuinely believe that your 'natural' place is the second tier.

All that because St Johnstone get a few fewer fans than some clubs. It must twist their tiny brains something fierce.

I saw that, but thought that was just relating to the Rangers proposals?

If it is "the wrong time for any reconstruction" from St J then you have far too many clubs to even consider a vote.

😍

Would that be genuinely successful businessman Roy MacGregor telling successful businesswoman Ann Budge how successful businesspeople go about things?

MacGregor could buy Budge, tens times over.

These same people would have Falkirk as a nailed on top flight club despite hardly ever being there.

The reason that it (hopefully) won’t go through, is that a top league of 14 with a split after 26 games is lunacy. And yet there are loads of people who can’t, or won’t, see this.

Aye, careful now. We all know that the farmers are the Icarus of the league. ;)

Agree 100%.

As @RandomGuy.'s pointed out being open to reconstruction but against voting this through at the moment aren't mutually exclusive positions.

We've been very quiet on the whole thing so it's difficult to get a handle on what our position is - I don't know if it's because Burrows is on the board or not - but the original statement we put out from Jim McMahon was along the lines of if reconstruction is to go through then it needs to be for the right reasons and be viable long term.

We believe quick decisions can often be bad ones. ‘Something needs to be done‘ is not the best methodology to apply. We should be as imaginative as possible and look at a number of different options – not just the obvious ones and immediately box ourselves into a corner around one particular structure.

Our hope is that the talks within the task force and a vote, if there is one, remain constructive. Any change should make the game in Scotland more attractive to all the stakeholders, principally the supporters.

It has to make the game better in the long term for fans.
