I mean. It's not really a raise though is it? ;)

Morgan was a PFA Young player nominee in 2017-18, snapped up, not given a real shot and farmed out to EFL League 1. Just like Hastie.

It's an identical situation.

Sorry DJ, completely forgot that Morgan had been nominated that year 😉

I don't have all that strong an opinion on Neil Doncaster either way, chiefly because he doesn't really have the level of power to justify the attention that is paid to him or the scrutiny he is put under, but my god why does he have to oversell thigs so cravenly?

“This extremely generous donation from James will help protect all of our clubs from the very worst effects of Covid-19, enabling them to return to playing as early as it’s safe to do so'

No it doesn't, Neil. The barrier to lower league clubs being able to start back at the same time as the top flight is not going to be breached by £50,000. Testing coupled with the income barrier of closed doors outweigh that by a significant degree.

This is a very welcome gesture on its own merits, 50,000 free pounds for each club. That's enough grounds to praise it and James Anderson on. It is NOT going to be the silver bullet that eliminates the Covid-19 barrier.

Excellent news for struggling clubs.

If this coincides with an announcement later today that - in some bizarre volte face - that Hearts have been saved, we might as well all just give up on Scottish football.

Watch that exact space over the next 2 weeks...…………………………..

Could be a hysterically funny day whatever way this goes.

Scottish football is brilliant.

Indeed. If Hearts are kept up, we have a better chance in the Champ next season. If they're not, weeks of piss-taking material ahead.

Also worth noting that if Hearts are kept up, it will mean the authorities have done more to save Hearts, than Rangers, who sadly died, and whose fans, already quite angry people, have just seen Celtic win another 9IAR, soon to be 10.

Guaranteed SCENES whatever the outcome.

There was a time when Hearts fans source of grandeur was starting a season quite well and winning the league in September.

Now? Well, there is a very slim possibility that they might have been successful in begging the entire league to expand to save them from relegation.

Sad to watch.

If Hearts are saved from relegation, will they do the decent thing and donate their £50k to those who are in more need lower down the leagues?

They will be too busy pissing themselves laughing to bother with shite like that.

The guy has just pitched up £3m.  He isn't going to come on and say thanks, really good but you know what James, not even close to fixing things.  Saying 'help protect' and 'early as it's safe to do so' isn't overselling.

Correct, its a fantastic philanthropic gesture and will be very helpful for smaller clubs.

He says that this enables clubs 'to return to playing as early as it’s safe to do so'. That's just factually incorrect. It will be safe to do so long before it will be financially viable to do so for lower league sides. This grant will not be enough to bridge that gap.

He can leave that last part out and his statement would be fine. He could use the word 'assisting' rather than the world 'enabling' and it would also be fine. But he says enabling and that is just incorrect.

As the old Rangers' attempt to exile the paupers has been mentioned a few times lately, here's the skinny for those who aren't familiar.

Check out the headline in the Herald at the end

Surely some of the bigger clubs will wave their share of this 3 million to help the clubs in actual danger..  50k to Celtic for example, what will that do, pay two of their players wages for a week...?

If it "enables" teams to still exist whenever the lower leagues are able to restart then it certainly helps them to return to playing when it's safe to do so.

There's plenty of sticks to beat the Doncaster with, being grateful for a free 3 million quid and the promise of more to follow in the midst of a pandemic isn't one of them.

'Helps' being the operative word, aye. It helps towards that goal, it doesn't achieve it all but it's lonesome.

It's not a cure all, not a silver bullet, yet from the moment it was first mentioned it has been described as the salvation of the sport. We're still firmly in the woods peering out. This has cleared some of a the path, but there's a ways to go yet.

My initial grip with Doncaster was that he was overselling it, not that he was grateful. Of course he is. As he should be. As we all should be.
