Scottish football fans are funny lot. They moan and moan. But turn the nose up at any reform. Yet Scottish is dead. The national team fails to qualify for anything and is a laughing stock.

Scottish Clubs sides cant get even get to the group stages the Champions league or Europa League. Maybe the Uefa Conference League?.

This is all kinds of wrong.

6 + 7 = 13. Surely a 14 team top flight warrants a 6/8 split.

If I'm reading this right you're postulating adding 58 teams to the league system, which means absorbing both the highland and lowland leagues and a few more besides.

With all these teams under the SPFL blanket, doesn't that mean you've got a LOT of extra hungry mouths to share prize money out among? Will the SPFL get extra sponsorship and TV money to cover what's now handled by the lower tiers, now that they have BSC Glasgow and Clachnacudden and Threave Rovers on the books? I seriously doubt it. Folks are moaning that the SPFL can't get sponsorship deals for the teams that are there already let alone this 58 extra clubs. Also these clubs will all get SPFL votes under the current governance system. Not going to happen and if it does, it'll be an entertaining clusterfuck as the South of Scotland voting bloc commandeers the league for it's own purposes.

I mean, you could be suggesting that there's only 44 teams, with the 14 clubs split into 5 groups, but that's all kinds of obviously insane, too.

Not really Romania Club sides were much like Scotland. But they revamped it. Take a look. Belgium and Bulgaria similar situation to Scotland.

So can you tell me how having the same teams with less budget will make a difference to that?

And on your initial plans, am I out of touch? I have always hated the English playoff system and don't like ours. To me if you weren't good enough over 36 games to go up then you aren't good enough. If you finish 4,5 or 6 then feck off,.should have been better over the games in the season.

One more thing, can the next twat that comes on here get an instant ban for using the pish "laughing stock" to describe Scottish football. I'm fucking sick of it. Don't like it, then bugger off and don't watch it. I take it that those that call it that have absolutely no knowledge of world football. Far worse laughing stocks out there. We do have problems yes but a laughing stock it isn't. Would be improved if we played the best players on form in National team though. If you only talk about a blinkered view of how shit everything is then don't be surprised if eventually everyone thinks that way too.

This is the worst idea I've ever seen.

Not just in the context of Scottish football, you understand.  In the context of ideas.  The poll tax was a better idea.  Gerald Ratner's speech was a better idea.

Spoken like the Titanic's keenest deckchair attendant.

Scottish Clubs find it hard to get into the higher ends of European championships because we're a small country with not that much money coming in, and with the most prestigious tournament in the world next door slurping up a ton of money, and lower-league teams all mortgated to the hilt throwing silly money at players in the mostly vain hopes that they can get their hands on that EPL megabucks. The financial structure, and the competition, and the players market is sorely distorted in favour of the four or five prestige tournaments. Everyone else is on crumbs.,

That has got absolutely f**k all to do with whether or not there are 14 teams or 12 teams or 18 teams in the top flight, or how flat the tier 5 pyramid system is.

Exactly which is why you have to do the radical approach and think outside the box.
