League Reconstruction 20/21 season

It could happen that not all Championship teams can play behind closed doors, but then it becomes all Championship clubs that can play behind closed doors need a solution, not just Hearts. Lets suppose that the only clubs able and willing to play behind closed doors are Hearts, ICT, Raith, Dundee, Dunfermline, Morton, what is more likely; a league of 18 or that Partick Thistle, Falkirk, Airdrie and maybe Clyde are invited to make up the numbers in the championship? If not all of them could field teams to play behind closed doors, we could let the SPFL teams play their colts for a season in the Championship.

I actually quite like that idea. Save Thistle, f**k hearts.

So what would happen to the clubs who took a "year out" as it were ?

What league would they rejoin when we were back to some sort of "normal" and playing in front of fans again ?

Would they rejoin where they left off ? where we could potentially have a 14, 15, 16 team 2nd tier ??

On the reconstruction proposal, would there be 2 automatic promotion positions from the Championship to the Premier if the 14 teams went through ? or would it still be the 1 automatic with only the 1 play off spot still heavily favouring the top tier side ?? If so, I seriously don't see why ANY Championship side would vote for this.

Good point but if they're clubs that are realistically not going to be able to participate in the whole season then they're going to run up loads of 3-0 default defeats which isn't a great outcome for them either but is also  poor outcome for the teams who go without fixtures.

And if we know in advance who  mothballed there's more chance of coming up with a better solution than that

Obviously I'd rather Hearts were playing Aberdeen than Arbroath next season but not actually playing Arbroath would be worse still.

How would anyone know this, given we have no idea what the future may bring ?

How would this be policed ? Would be bring in auditors such as Deloitte or PWC to sign off accounts ? because we ALL know how that works.

The bottom line is that there's no Championship club who could feasibly play behind closed doors for an entire season and I'd seriously doubt if many of the Premier clubs could manage this either from a financial perspective.

Given Hearts fans were screaming about fairness and integrity and morals, they will surely take a dim view of this latest nonsense by Budge and would refuse to take a place in the Premiership via bribe if it happened? They'd also boycott all clubs who voted for it as well yes?

Got to love an open letter... don’t look out for you own self interests because we’re not.

They should prove it by accepting relegation but allowing Dundee and Inverness to come up. Then they can spread the maroon pound round the championship.

I’m just tired of this dragging on, not helping anyone. Get the vote through on the proposal (which will be a no)  then let’s just move on. If Hearts still want to go down the destructive legal route then get on with it, or do the sensible thing and put that energy into returning to the top flight which we all know they will do with their resources. It’s all just turned into too much of a circus.

Agreed.

From tomorrow the Premiership clubs can start preparing for the new season and Hearts, along with the other lower league clubs, can concentrate their efforts on cobbling together divisions at their level instead of embarrassing themselves further.

In fact that letter opens up all sorts of other nonsense - we could end up with a league consisting of ;

Celtic - loadsacash in the bank

Rangers - some radge will give them money

Aberdeen - Dave Cormack cash

Hibs - Rons dough

Hearts - Andersons cash

Partick - the Euromillions legacy

Cove Rangers - cash rich backers

Have I missed anyone? Sorry if I have, its not a serious suggestion but its about as sensible as "prove you have the cash to play 36 games".

An open letter is the most hearts thing ever

I disagree, statistics suggest beating Hibs is the most Hearts thing ever.

Should be making a film about Hearts soon, farcical letter, sounds like you have to be rich to play in the Fantasy League, stuff the rest of them. Yes next season may have to be almost an 'interim' until things return to some normality - definitely won't be sustainable behind closed doors. Why can't Hearts concentrate on winning the Championship first-time back ?

We have ideas of what the future may bring otherwise we wouldn't be having this discussion and you're talking about a worst case scenario

If we were genuinely expecting closed doors for the entire season then you're right there wouldn't be much point in anybody playing the 2020-21 season at all so they may as well finish this one behind closed doors and then mothball the whole lot and kick off the 2021-22 season on time.

But, assuming the prognosis isn't quite that bleak  ...

The SPFL could make an informed forecast on roughly how much of the season is expected to be behind closed doors and then ask clubs if they can commit to, for example, playing behind closed doors till December
