DC92
Where does this idea that we'll have crowds back in January come from anyway? That seems baselessly optimistic, especially as viruses tend to be seasonal and it's a time of year that health services are usually under considerable strain. I wouldn't like to bet on there being any Championship football next season if playing behind closed doors is off the table.
TheScarf
Gordon Strachan is a fucking moron and a terrible manager who is incorrectly lauded for winning the league at Celtic, which any football manager who has a working brain could've achieved. He also failed to get Scotland to Euro 2016, when it was actually harder not to qualify, given we had an in transition Poland and terrible, jobber-laden South Ireland in the group. He successfully managed to finish 4th behind the two mentioned and group winners Germany. We can safely file his opinion on any football related matter in the nearest bin.

They're only allowed to show 48 matches plus play-offs but NOBODY else is allowed to show the other 200+ matches in Scotland (UK?) without Sky's permission, and a likely renegotiation of the contract. Got it in one
craigkillie
To be fair to Strachan, he qualified from the Champions League group stage two years running, and in 2006/07 they took eventual champions AC Milan side to extra time with a back four of Paul Telfer/Mark Wilson, Stephen McManus, Darren O'Dea and Lee Naylor. Added to that the fact that nobody knows when or if a vaccine will be available. Granted, there may be a point where we need to "get on with things " for want of a better phrase, but there hasn't been anything to base that on at all.

Includes obligatory meaningless reference to English football too. I actually think he has some good points. You can dislike him but that doesn't mean he's wrong on everything. Scotland has too many teams in the league system, that to me is obvious and if it wasn't for "the way it's always been" we could streamline our professional setup. No other country in Europe with a similar population to our as anywhere near the volume of league teams we have. There is nothing wrong with playing at a level your resources place you at, in fact it would be better for everyone. There are many teams in our league with smaller crowds than a lot of the ex junior teams. Teams like Brechin would be better competing with Banks o Dee and the like than being in the same league system as the Old Firm.. -
Ranaldo Bairn
Havers. He's talking shite, and a couple of posters very accurately nailed him on it above. The pyramid system was just getting geared up properly before this crap hit, so clubs will definitely be able to find their level. Assuming the bottom of SPFL4 opens up as it should.

RandomGuy. Still waiting for a sensible answer to this after years of challenging it. The last attempt was that the "big" clubs would save huge amounts of money that the wee teams are draining from them. Without even challenging that, somebody worked out it would be a maximum of about £15,000 per annum, or enough for a new junior admin for their club shop...and that's assuming Celtgers wouldn't be given the majority of that pathetic amount anyway. Strachan is very much of the school who'd love all of the wee teams to fold and their fans to follow "big" clubs instead, as if there isn't enough of that. He also wants a gated top division, with entry based on money rather than merit. Hamilton being in the Premiership absolutely steams his tatties, as evidenced again by that article. Hearts and the Dundee clubs being allowed to drop out of the top drawer infuriates him. Plain and simple, he wants to remove any danger of failure for clubs he considers important. All he has to do is persuade his favourite 10/12/whatever clubs to walk away from the Scottish league system, again. I'm sure it'll work out great, just like it did last time.
YER SISTERS YER MAW
There is only two teams too many in Scotland. Two teams that hoover up fans from every nook and cranny of our small country and exploit religion to do so.

If three Championship clubs do not agree to a closed doors plan to restart their league then it's a goner no matter how much foot-stomping Hearts (and for some bizarre reason, Dundee) want to do about it..

If she could shut down as many competing businesses on the East Coast as possible, their customers would go and watch Hearts instead because they'd have no other choice. A total failure on a fundamental level to understand the relationship between football fans, the clubs they follow, and the sport in general, but you can understand her thinking. I've no idea what the excuse is for Gordon Strachan, other than that he really, really, really hated being embarrassed by plumbers and joiners in the Scottish Cup, and has never forgotten it.
parsforlife
It’s really a fantastic rant. Spectacularly ending with claiming he’s not trying to get rid of clubs but they should find their level. they have Gordon, and have been playing at that level comfortably for a very long time.

Who knows, hes had a similar rant before. He wanted all full time clubs to have their own, closed shop, league system. Sure hes also claimed that full time clubs should be the only ones allowed votes in terms of the league structure. Just a few months ago he was demanding part time clubs play games so we can end this season even if it killed them off.

I have seen and heard lots of talk about TV companies looking at their deals with the top leagues in Europe but never seen anything about the Sky-SPFL deal. You're whistling in the dark Craig. You're normally quite rational, but on this point you're in denial. Are Killie gagging more than most for that money that was scheduled for August? Ahemps - of course SKY will take the opportunity to chip the TV deal. They're losing subscribers and advertising revenue. They are being offered games that will be behind closed doors for part of the season - games with no atmosphere that that will get even more paltry viewing figures from England. Timings might need to change. They might already have thought they bid too much in the first place. No danger they're just going to carry on and pay SPFL the previously agreed £30m.
