League Reconstruction 20/21 season

Recommended Posts

I'm sure a  Rangera fan advocating a play off for the Title instead of a league season has absolutely nothing to do with the fact they cant keep up with Celtic over a league season.
Its absolutely, definitely, 100% to do with making it fair for the rest of Scottish football.
This never happened...did it?

Think it was Stevie Gs suggestion, it's the only way he'll ever get near the Scottish title.

So they don't want the league called, they don't want it played and they either want it null and void but get money for finishing 2nd place (which can't happen if it's null and void) or they want to play a game against the team they are 13 points behind after collapsing in spectacular fashion?

Looking at that, it does look like something the **** would suggest.

Heard a rumour that 12-12-18 could be back on the cards with the 8-8-8 split in the top 2 divisions.

All other ideas have little chance of getting voted through by the premiership teams. Hearts may have to take relegation but this would give them the best or easiest way to get promoted next season.

This remains as appalling an idea as it was when it was rejected seven years ago. It's more batshit than a 42 team league.

Was that the one Ross County & St Mirren put the kybosh on?

If their opinion hasn't changed, it's not worth even making the proposal. Uou would think they'd be sounded out.

Yes, although St Mirren have a different board now.

Surely this drivel would never get enough support though. We've had a lot of talk in here about big leagues giving meaningless games - you'd get more meaningless games in this than you would in a 20 team league. They managed to get so much support for it in 2013 by attaching it to a merger of the SPL & SFL and saying it was necessary for the financial redistribution that would go with that merger but without that carrot now I don't see why any Championship club would support it, other than Partick to escape relegation.

What chance of season 20/21 starting in January and being 22 games? 12 teams home and away and none of this reconstruction nonsense.

With the announcement last night I would be surprised if there was any more football played this year.

It seems that the sporting bodies are walking a fine line between following advice (and/or legalisation) put forward by actual experts and sucking the corporate cock of their broadcasting paymasters.

I've said from the very start of this, that it's daft to suggest the season is played out. Those, perhaps with less of an overview of how pandemics work, seem to be clinging on to hope.

This season is surely gone, no realistic chance of it being played out.

Next season could be gone too. CMO last night saying social distancing to be in place for at least the rest of the year. Social distancing = no football.

There certainly should be no talk of reconstruction at the moment when we may not finish a full season till 2022.

1) Yeah, I mean we could maybe get the cup games done, but only under very specific circumstances, but for the league I'd say it's a bogey.

2) Tough one about next season, I can see the start date pushed back but dingy'ed completely? Not sure. A reduced half season with no away fans and only a very select number explicitly distanced home fans unable to buy pies or bovril? It's doable. Not sure it would be that much fun.

3) IMO, too many cooks are the problem. We have "hidden hand" influences of the broadcasters, we have narrow self interest from some clubs, we have other clubs who simply want a fight no matter what all governed by a body that hasn't really shown leadership.

It is looking likely that large scale public gatherings At sport events such as Cheltenham, Europa league games in Liverpool, Spain and Italy are being blamed for the larger outbreaks of Covid-19 in these countries.

If these do turn out to be implicated, we will have no public gatherings for at least a year if not longer. No need to rush any chat on new setups

If it's not done now, it won't be done at all. Not saying that's a bad thing, they could just suspend all activity for a month.

If there's a few clubs go belly up there might need to be a re-restructure.

Can you imagine the bun fights and caterwauling should reconstruction talks last longer than a month?

Not that the recriminations, regardless of outcome, won't continue on for much longer than that.

Yes: when Stuart Milne accused Gilmour of ruining Scottish football, after voting against changing the voting structure himself. What a fucking dick that man is.

Take a year out. Season can start again next March and be finished.

If the football can't start back up again until January then just as well waiting another few months.

Impossible. Players age, contracts expire etc. The only club who could survive a year without football up here is Celtic and even they'd likely struggle.

Its a good start for a joke though...there was an Irishman sitting in an English parliament worried about a Scottish football league decision in the midst of a global pandemic...
