32 Preliminary round fixtures would involve 64 clubs and reduce 144 entrants to 112.

To cut 144 cubs down to 128 there would need to be 16 preliminary fixtures (involving 32 clubs!)  with 112 getting byes.

D'oh, got clubs and fixtures mixed up!

I'll be honest, looking at the list of teams eligible to enter the South Challenge Cup, it looks a whole lot sexier than what'll be left in the Junior Cup next season, which will be whatever West clubs choose to enter, a handful of West Lothian remainers or the probable loss-maker of a trip to Tayside or points north.
Obviously, the Junior Cup's still got the advantage of name recognition over the SCC...but I'd contend that while the likes of Brigitte Bardot also still has name recognition it doesn't necessarily follow that folk would still be queuing up to win a date with her decades on from her heyday now she's turned into a nasty, racist old cat lady...it's maybe time to move on.

You wont have a choice over the SCC.

I note that George Fraser is quoted in the Sunday Mail as saying "We intend to make the South Region Challenge Cup a mandatory competition".

What did Cumberland do?

No idea it was just mentioned in the discussion between the EoSFL and SoSFL twitter accounts. So seems official...

Shove this cup up your kazoo. There's a 38 game league to be played.

Didn’t take long. Mind you it’s a novel change a Talbot fan prioritising the league over a cup competition. Traffordab or whoever the hell he is today will be along in a minute.
