South Region Challenge Cup 2020-21

Recommended Posts

Seeing as the Junior Cup has almost disappeared, this must be the biggest cup for the majority of clubs now - maybe some preseason rounds in the future ? Doesn't quite have the same pulling power as the JC, but with the prize of a new set of kit (a guess)  and a couple of  ⚽ too, what a cracker. Bit like the Nation's League trying to be important ,but doesn't mean much yet.  Give it time eh

Sorry Shanner.. I was meanin that some Talbot fans on this web site and over at the Talbot fan site did not think much about the Lowland League and the East of Scotland League teams in the quality side until now. But over the years Talbot had not always had it easy vs those teams in the Scottish. And last two or three years the Junior Cup got easier for Talbot with only other West teams, Lochee, BOD. So this cup should be a big cup for Talbot. And chance to prove top dog status on the park. But some are saying shove it, calling it tin pot, two bob. Ok a new cup is a new cup. But maybe those Talbot fans are worried Lowland and East of Scotland teams wont turn out be quite so easy as they used to say. They should be well up for it.

Nothing will have changed with regard to the perception of quality in the Lowland League. Only a few clubs there on merit and the cream of them got their arse handed to them by Talbot at their own place recently.

The top teams in the WoSFL are a tier below in name only. The system means that it may take 10-15 years but the tiers will virtually reverse themselves eventually. Therefore the league is the priority. Talbot rightly saw the Scottish Junior Cup as a route to pit themselves against big teams, like Ayr Utd and Hearts and bring in a bit of dough at the same time. This cup brings none of that. It’s a nuisance. People rattling on about playing Linlithgow and Bo’ness. Can we honestly see Tucker seeing those as mouthwatering ties, especially if his team are in the mix at the top of the league. You’re kidding yourselves on.

I suggest you look up Talbot's record in the Junior Cup under Tommy Sloan. The East Teams posed next to no threat. Talbot either won the Junior Cup or got knocked out by another West team apart from once when Bo'ness knocked us out. We must have played east teams about 70 times in this period including multiple games against big guns like Bonnyrigg,. Linlithgow and Bo'ness.

Talbot do not need to prove themselves against anybody in non-league football. The results speak for themselves . The fact that you are trying to find fault says more about you

Serious Question! When was the last time a top East team beat a top West team in the Scottish Junior Cup?

Lochee United beating Beith in the 2017-18 QF and then Auchinleck in the SF 1st leg? Bo'ness also beat Kilwinning and Kilbirnie that season.
