West Development U20 League / Teams

I just got a message from one of the committee at Bonnyton Thistle & he says that although most were free others charged £3 & £5.00 last season???

What do the rules state? I'm sure someone on here will know?

There is no rule. It is up to each individual club to determine if they charge or not as long as they advise the opposition, so that their parents/supporters are aware to avoid any issues when they attend the game. It is a development league and if clubs ask for a donation or a £2 entry fee, it should not cause a problem. I do know that last season very few teams charged for people to watch development games

…… latest estimates. 28 teams from last season plus 32 newcomers:  60 current total. The most recent clubs to indicate they're applying or have applied are:

WoS
Beith Juniors
Irvine Meadow
Kilwinning Rangers
Kirkintilloch Rob Roy
Neilston
St. Anthony’s
Yoker Athletic

EoS
Jeanfield Swifts
Tynecastle

Every team listed have quoted applied on their official twitter accounts but cant seem to find anything about Kilwinning in either twitter or facebook etc...

Dev, do you have the link to the official announcement by Kilwinning that they are entering or applied to the lowland U20 league ?

I can't see it being dampark especially if we have a match the next day. Would be better for the 20s to play at ayr academy on the astro

Whitletts statement says they are trying to secure Dam Park for Friday nights.
Read on here that you need a spectator barrier around the pitch so i would be surprised if a school pitch had that

To be honest when I first listed the teams I was thinking if they get to maybe 5 or 6 teams from the West with the current 5 west teams then maybe they could make up a regional West and then an East regionalised and that would be great but in all honestly to get 24 teams officially state they are applying to join the Lowland U20 League with their U20 team is absolutely fantastic and think the Lowland league will just grow form strength to strength

LATEST UPDATE 8/0620

POSSIBLY; Teams who have applied are listed above. So at this moment we have 29 teams, (30 if counting Dunipace) from the West side and with an impressive, excellent East side of over 30 teams, the Lowland U20s Development League looks as if is growing from strength to strength)

The list below is of teams who have expressed an interest but nothing has been made official

Pollok                                                (heard they have their U20 management in place and just one obstacle to get over and they will apply)
Largs Thistle                                  (informed unofficially that they will be applying to join the U20 league)

Cumbernauld, Auchinleck, Rutherglen Glencairn and Cumnock are looking into it but think it looks like 21/22 when they are ready

One of the reasons for listing clubs interested in joining the Under 20's league was to let clubs know who was interested from the start.

If enough clubs come forward early on then it sends out the message that this is viable for others too. It can build a momentum of its' own, a bit like what  happened in the EoS and the WoS. If the Under 20's have 60 plus teams then it will be one of the largest leagues in Scotland, alongside the WoS and EoS. Who'd have thought that a few years ago!

One interesting thing I've noticed is that each of the Tier 7 Conferences of the WoS has five clubs also entering the Under 20's league so 15 out of 23 WoS teams known to be entered. An encouraging sign.

Really starting to look good now, with so many WOS clubs having U20 teams, hopefully very few talented youngsters will be lost to the game - creating a pathway through to the 1st team and beyond. As I said yesterday, why don't the spfl clubs say use our training grounds etc if pitches are hard to find ? Go on be generous !

Your new under 17 team are exceptional 👍

Interesting comments and exciting times for club.

Talbot will make their through pyramid easily once this team make breakthrough by sounds of it.

looking forward to see them play, i take it if they’re exceptional they’ve cleared up all trophies at their age group, including Scottish?

Killie and Ayr must be gutted at losing out on players to them.

Maybe so but as long as boys enjoy the game who really cares. There has been a few diamonds plucked from lower level sides.

Agree totally with first sentence, well said.

As long as boys enjoy it and stay in the game and enjoy it, that’s the main thing.

More coaches make this new set-up about them and their ego, less players will enjoy it.

This is a problem but the ones who can sort it is the first team, as people have to remember, the first team take the accolades of the development team and all the problems so if there is a problem the first team can fold the development team straight away.  Too many coaches think its about winning. The question and answers in in the title, 'Development'. The development league is about developing the player and the coaches should be developing the person then the player.  The league is not about winning but some don't care, that's fine, at the end of the day if you coach good football and the lads understand what is required and develop then they will eventually be challenging for trophies  anyways and a good chance most of the lads may go onto a higher level

I agree, that’s why I said above it’s about players enjoying it and staying in the game and not about a coach winning trophies.

That's what they are hoping. Whether that ends up being the case, or the pitch  holds up, remains to be seen.

I don't see there is any confusion

The development squad is operated by the first team, and if the first team are having problems then they can fold the development squad so I'm sure before the first team applied to add a development squad to the Lowland league then the park would already be arranged.
