West of Scotland Football, What Is The Future?

Recommended Posts

The travelling in this league is going to be horrific for a few teams but they knew what they were signing up to so good luck to them [emoji106]

I really don't see where the "horrific" travel thing comes from. 63 of the teams were already playing in all in West Region leagues. The 4 new teams come from Glasgow (x2, although 1 playing at Airdrie), Kilmarnock and Eastwood/Newton Mearns, and St. Cadoc's confirmed today that they will be playing at McKenna Park. So nobody is facing a longer trip than they potentially could have faced in the old set up. It's unfortunate that a couple of teams have ended up in conferences that will see them rack up a fair few miles, but the same could have happened in the old leagues.

Just a thought that has occurred in a moment of idle curiosity...

If a Dalbeattie or Gretna were to be relegated from the LL can they apply for the WoS league?

The thought occurs if they were to be relegated and put into the SoS league they would have next to no chance of going back up even if they won the SoS league due to the quality of the teams in from the EoS and WoS in the play off. So could they fudge the game a bit and apply for the WoS, have a season playing against bigger teams and getting better attendances before (probably) getting relegated and THEN move to the SoS league?

Are there any rules, or plans to impose any rules, that would stop them from doing so?

The existing rules is that the 3 leagues decide amongst themselves where they would be relegated to from the Lowland League. So at the start of the new season the 16 clubs will have a nominated league for relegation.

Chances are they would take into a account a club's preference. With Caledonian Braves still having their SoS side there should be nothing stopping Gretna or Dalbeattie going to the WoSFL.

If relegation is opened up to 2 spots it could well be the case over next few seasons that a West of Scotland team that wins the league is not licensed and so South of Scotland champions would go up automatically.

As noted before, the top flight has been dominated by Ayrshire for a while and that means the other teams are thinly spread across three divisions.

West of Scotland football has no immediate future.

This pandemic will see to no non league football till the new year in turn the leagues are snookered especially the farcical top division of 20 .

2020/21 is already a right off .

How non league football will look at the end of all this is anybodys guess.

Depends on Spain and Italy.

If football regroups there then it will start to move in the UK also.

What's Spain and Italy got to do with a small scottish non league??

Yeah the spfl premiership will return before then but that's it.

Horrific way for this new set up to begin chaos in trying to organise things, half the teams don't even want to be there,  farcial top team set up,  no leadership who actually know what the west juniors is all about. No football for months it's horrendous.

Only positive is west junior clubs by nature are excellent at surviving that's why many are well over 100 years old ( don't tell the lowland supremo that as bizarrely he and his club think history is overrated and means nothing)

True enough.

Why would anybody give an eff in redneck Scotland about football returning in Spain or Italy. Not as though there was a pandemic in the Milan or Madrid football areas.

No wonder the West Juniors walked.

Only a TJ and his pals could come out with that thicko patter.

Riddy awarded.

Well we're not going to be classed as Professional sport (who can possibly pay for their own testing) and social distancing will be required so can't see it. It's phase 3/4 for us.

And also, no way our clubs can pay wages if supporters not allowed in. Social distancing is easy enough on the terraces if people aren't daft but things like pie huts, toilets etc... even changing rooms?

If you're talking about the Phase 3 side of things. How do you impose physical distancing during a football game for the players? There's been examples of professinal football players, UFC fighter, and probably athletes i'm not aware of that have tested positive within professional sport.

Take that to the non-professional side of things, how many players are risking a week to two weeks in isolation/quarantine and off work just so they can play football at the weekend. That's the financial concern. Then there's still the other concern of spreading the virus to others even if you remain healthy.

Some people will always find the negative 👍🏼

Its not really negative to look at the entirety. Physical distancing is still social distancing by another name. Phase 3 says more live events can resume but with physical distancing still in place. Non-professional sports can't afford the constant testing that the professional leagues can to work around physical distancing concerns.
