West of Scotland Football, What Is The Future?

I suppose it depends on the contract, payment may not kick in till football restarts.

You might be right of course but why would a player sign just now. If/when a start date is announced every club will be looking to strengthen and you might get better/different offers

This why would anyone sign and be tied down to a club for no money or benefit to player at all

Since  very few if any clubs will pay wages meantime, a signing on fee would possibly persuade some. Others may be content knowing that they have a forthcoming deal while clubs still have money to offer. Everybody is in the same position at the moment and signing a contact now gives something to look forward to.

Courier giving further insight into the futures of L1/2 clubs. Can't see how the senior non-leagues can be on a different page to them.

Interesting, I can see the lower spfl playing just home and away once, could fit that in easily if it started in 2021. Think it will drop down to non league levels, hopefully no clubs will disappear and that all players manage to get fixed up,whenever that is. A definite change in how clubs run has to happen , and the league's may have to  swallow their pride and change too.

I find it farcical that Scottish football are even considering tests. It's an added extra clubs (all of which are constantly moaning about finances) just dont need and cant afford. Theres an argument we have too many clubs, but in reality we only have around 20 full time clubs. Some of which pay ridiculously low wages. I really dont understand why we dont go 12-18-18, now is the perfect time. All full time clubs would be in the top 2 divisions, ambitious part time clubs could go against them in the championship, leaving a national league for the best part time clubs before a drop down to regional level. However the problem is at the top we cant agree on the colour of the grass

Probably a bunch of different factors come into play.

  • Player says no to a club recruiting, club carries on and signs someone else. That's one less club when the time comes.
  • Clubs are likely to be basing their offers on previous experience. Nobody knows how they might have to adjust their budget when the season starts. The player could then have a higher rate than if they had waited.
  • The club making the offer meets the player's usual standards. Why look elsewhere when they're happy with what's on offer based on what they're used to.
  • Already spent 2+ months in mothballs. No idea when the season actually starts. Probably want the security of knowing they'll have a team to train with as soon as the green light comes.
  • If every player sits out and waits, then it will be a game of musical chairs when the green light comes. You have no idea if you will get your choice of club by the time the music ends.

Maybe the UK and or Scottish Governments will have access to cheap "instant" tests by the autumn. The UK Government has already gone public about working on this possibility. IF that happens, and it is a massive IF, then they may be available to everyone for free.

Big MAYBE's and IF's but things are changing very quickly

Just seen a flying pig. Where there's muck there's brass.

They'd need to still be members of the SJFA to play in the semi finals of this season's Scottish Junior Cup if it is played during next season. Interesting to see that they are waiting to see how it works in the calendar going forward, including next season.

Delighted for beith juniors the club supporters and players at this decision. Proper football club who are not run by clueless newbies or one man brainwashing a clueless committee.
Here's to many more announcing continual membership.

Don't think he read it fully, or maybe it had joined up writing making it difficult ! Seems the word 'junior' brings on strange behaviour in some folk. Does that mean they won't be watching their clubs 'senior' football asap, seeing as they can't let go.

Neilston to consider changing the title of the club

Expect thats the 'junior' side of things in the name eh, Neilston AFC ? oh god that's gonna upset some of the (junior)  fans on here...again. Maybe they've got a big sponsor who wants his or his companies name involved !  Good luck to the club, whatever they and the fans decide.

The situation with a promotion bottle neck for big WOSFL and EOSFL makes the long term future of the Lowland League look unlikely to me... If the West and East split the Lowland system, they would still have parity with the Highlands and it would solve the problem of it taking years to stabilise the fact some relatively weak outfits will stay in the Lowland League because it will take so long to replace them...

Maybe if the west clubs had come on board after Kelty Hearts' move then they could have had more sides already playing in the LL? Boat delayed, unfortunately.

Do you think that the SPFL would agree to more than two leagues at Tier 5? You couldn't divide the LL area into east and west at Tier 5 unless the SPFL agreed to it. They're not even willing to put forward a club to take part in this season's play-off final against the winners of the HL and LL?
