You could end up in the position we are at the moment when one season is not finished when the next one is due to start. But I was assuming that flyingscot was really meaning the , as yet untried concept of the close season being some period during winter , rather than some period during late spring/early summer. There's scope now to extend and play games later May if necessary. Next season we'd be having a bigger break halfway through the season than between seasons how could you even call that Summer football? It would be the same every two years, so what's the actual benefit? I'd also worry about the fact a lot of clubs would presumably be signing players from England. So in the Summer youd be signing players who've completed a full season, and expecting them to go straight into another half season instantly, and then getting a minor break before the next season and it would be a broken up season due to International tournaments. For example, English player plays from Summer 2022 to May 2023, moves to Scotland and plays until December 2023, short break then back into it January 2024 due to WC. In front of crowds in double figures for most games.
