Not knowing which division Kelty or Brora will be in wont be a huge matter to them, because their playing squads will be largely the same regardless. Maybe Brora and Kelty would prefer not to have a play off, because of the uncertainty, and would prefer to stay in their respective leagues. But, if they thought that, then they wouldn't have come out with the joint statement would they? The only real problem is for Brechin, who depend on the spfl handouts. They've also got a hand on the spfl driving wheel.

The way I see it, Brechin, hiding behind the spfl don't want to come to a solution.

Kelty and Brora would take the impractical, and try to work on the best fair solution for all three clubs. Brechin wont. They are hiding behind the spfl.

I don't think you really understand the political dynamite that the lowland league have been forced to accept a rule change to allow Brechin in. The only club that rule change benefits is Brechin, so the position of the Brechin Chairman is frankly untenable within the spfl and the clubs should fire him.

Every club works in self interest, but bypassing the highland/lowland league line is corrupt, and has massive implications.

It’s hardly political dynamite and corruption

Well no one is dead so putting into the context of life then no it isnt.

However in the context of a competitive sporting environment it is given what's happened at this level of Scottish football in recent years.

I wasn't aware of it until last night - a tweet hastily deleted - brought it up. I believe it is what was referenced in the Brora and kelty joint statement, and it would appear it's been common knowledge for weeks.

Yes, the lowland league was told by the spfl that if they didn’t alter their rules to allow Brechin to drop into the league If relegated, that they would lose their places in spfl competitions (league cup and challenge cup).

The spfl was asked to supply funding to compensate clubs for the increased travel to Angus but point blank refused.

Thanks - I suspected pressure would be applied, and I couldn't figure out why the play off might be cancelled but that puts all the pieces in the jigsaw together.

No other club in league 2 benefits from the spfl shifting the pyramid line.

There's 13 clubs south of Brechin that have been prevented from going to the Lowland League pyramid because of location.

The Lowland League has been threatened with removal of cup competitions unless it acquiesces.

My club have been disadvantaged, but the Lowland league made a decision, that was probably arguably a reasonable decision in the circumstances.

I think there's huge question marks that need to be resolved over how the SPFL has acted.

Why should travel matter, when clubs in the LL aspire to National status anyways.

Surely the real issue is a pyramid that still doesn't fully embrace the tayside area - allowing them to sit in limbo between HL and LL.

Clubs in the national leagues receive over £45k in cash from the spfl, clubs in the lowland league receive nothing. If you’re travelling to Elgin twice but receive a wad of cash over the season you can budget this, if you don’t get anything then the travel becomes a burden that prevents you making upgrades to your ground or playing squad.

The pyramid is the SFA’s baby in this country, the only time they have intervened has been to prevent conferences at WoSL level. They have the power to ensure the spfl play ball by the pyramid IMO, their silence has been defeaning. Stewart Regan has done more since leaving his post to support the pyramid during this sham than the current incumbents who are sleepwalking.

Thats shocking.

Forgetting about Brechin at the minute on a wider issue I don’t think the current set up at tier 5 is sustainable long term. It’s obviously hugely lopsided with more teams in the lowland area.  As you say the Tayside clubs don’t seem to be interested at the moment but even if they joined a Highland pyramid it would still be hugely weighted with the amount of clubs in the Lowland area.

It’s a massive disadvantage to the Lowland League clubs isn’t it?

A whole other debate which you’ll have to forgive me I’m can’t be arsed getting into today!

The EoSFL suggested a Tayside in the PWG meetings. The EoSFL and East Region held a meeting or meetings since the PWG resumed in 2018. Since the PWG ended the West Region has held talks with the pyramid leagues which saw the creation of the WoSFL. The North Region has held talks with the Highland League.

What exactly has the poor put upon Tayside area done to integrate themselves into the pyramid? Nothing. They didn't want a Tayside league. They didn't talk merger with the EoSFL to resolve the competitor league covering the same area. They've never held talks to integrate into the Highland League.

The funny this about this all is that clubs in the SPFL are making it even more difficult in the long run for themselves to prosper in the fifth tier.

Barring the pyramid being fully closed off again, there are clubs at the bottom of the league who will come down at some point. The longer they wait for this to happen, and the longer they prevent clubs coming up from the LL, the stronger that league will become and the less likely it will be for them to be able to get a foothold in it.

What has happened is there is a pandemic.  There is no capacity to play games for the foreseeable.  Thus play offs at all levels can’t take place - thus my club and others lose out.  Disappointing but not some vast conspiracy

Spot on.

What have Kelty become a tribute act to Glasgow Rangers?

Statements left right and centre.

Lack of understanding of where the game is in the middle of a pandemic.

Ex Rangers management team coming out with nonsensical stuff on this.

Fans on social media banging on about pie in the sky legal action that anyone with any common sense would go nowhere.

Seems on the face of it that the whole business model is built on getting into the 'promised land ' asap. Hint of desperation about it all.

Take a step back kelty realise the situation and rebuild for next season in the lowland a league you are happy to big up and see what the future holds.

Good luck.

The bit I don’t understand:

the only team in league 2 that benefits from the “shift the highland league lowland league boundary” is Brechin. So what did Brechin do for the spfl to take that on, and threaten the lowland league to get it through.

Once raised as an issue it probably found support from the other Angus clubs. Then if any of this was said during Professional Game Board meetings the Highland League may have came across as some what supportive of the issue as well. The loss of access to the SPFL League and Challenge Cups wouldn't neccessarily be seen as that major to them. Due to the lack of truly Northern teams in the draws.

Ken Ferguson sits on the SPFL board.

Looking at a map, this could effectively be shifting the demarcation line from south of dundee to south of Stonehaven?

With the wosfl due to start it becomes a very lopsided pyramid.

There are those that would have the Highland Boundary Fault line used to separate the Highland and Lowland Leagues.

Questions here are can UEFA step in and say you cant relegate some teams and then keep others up

Teams in automatic promotion / relegation spots were promoted / relegated. Kelty didn't finish in an automatic spot. They've no more right to be given promotion than Cowdenbeath or Montrose.
