The SPFL recommendation?

Recommended Posts

You said teams deserve promotion and relegation as they stand, they don't.

Any chance you could disappear back to the championship forum? We’ve got enough ‘representatives’ of league one clubs who keep spouting simplistic repetitive shite over the past 70-odd pages, they’ve got this covered without help from other clubs.

If the leauges can't or won't be finished.

Nothing has been won and nothing has been lost.

No team deserves to go up, no team deserves to go down, no champions, no cups, no wooden spoons.

Payout the monies as it stands and null and void the season.

Quite a few Scottish league football players are 8 weeks away from redundancy unless the government keeps paying the furlough, theres no telling when this lockdown will start to get lifted insofar as any kind of resumption of football is concerned , no club can afford to sign players till theres clear indication of that, and  all the pontificating and slavering on here about who goes up and who if any go down will change nothing , the decisions lie squarely with the spfl and their puppet masters, change has to be made to the  league set up if only for one season and the ugly sisters and Sky will just have to like it

Any future change in the Scottish game has to be for the benefit of every club, not just the greed is good league

Why do teams deserve more prize money based on higher positions if the positions don't count for anything?

It should never have been put to clubs. This is the SPFL trying to shift the blame and escape any repercussions. They're using the promise of prize money as a bribe.
There's no good outcome in all of this. Rangers aren't realistically catching Celtic and nobody is catching Dundee United. I doubt that Edinburgh City were catching Cove. But Raith weren't home and hosed - League 1 was still a proper title race. Hearts weren't guaranteed to go down. Neither were Thistle. Forfar might fancy their chances of 8th instead of 9th. Queen of the South are 3 points behind 8th. There's absolutely no way that the SPFL can justify calling the season now and deciding promotion and relegation when there was still strong chances that final league positions would be different.
The SPFL know this. What they want is to put the responsibility onto clubs because when the final decision is made and the inevitable shit show kicks off, the league can say that this is what clubs themselves voted for. It's an absolutely pathetic abdication of responsibility from the SPFL. They want clubs to do the dirty work and take all of the recrimination. The least bad option would be to void the season. Start 20/21 with the same league structure as 19/20, the same teams in each division and the same teams as European representatives. Get money out to clubs to ensure that we actually have 42 teams to start the 20/21 season, whenever that eventually is. Sure you're denying Celtic a title and you're forcing Dundee United and Cove to spend another year in the 2nd and 4th tiers respectively, but that's no worse an outcome than forcing relegation on Hearts and Thistle or denying Falkirk a proper shot at promotion. It's no worse than forcing play-offs on Forfar and Queen of the South.
When this is all over and whatever utter madness will come in the fallout - and there will be absolute chaos regardless of what decision is eventually made - the one thing that should unite all clubs is how utterly shameful the SPFL have acted. To use vital funding as some kind of bribe to con football clubs into doing the SPFL's job and accepting all of the blame is little short of criminal. The SPFL management just are not fit for purpose. They're rotten to their core and Scottish football really does need far better administrators running the game.
Of course it should be put to the clubs. No matter what you think of how the voting process has been carried out, it's a damn site fairer than just asking the SPFL Board to make the decision.

Which of us seems to be getting aggresive? Surely the purposes of the podcast is to inform debate? The people on it have all been in media long enough to establish they don't have particularly valuable insight.

It's their job to make decisions. It isnt for the chairmen of Killie, Morton, Airdrie, Albion Rovers or any other team to decide to relegate Hearts and Thistle as a way of accessing the money they need to keep their own clubs afloat.

Just listening to it and jim McInally makes a valid point Drysdales position at Dundee given his position at Raith has Raiths promotion in his hands conflict of interest or favouritism, also suggested the 14 team Premiership and with a relegation of 3 teams next year.

It sure as hell wouldn't be favouritism. Trust us.

To be honest, I can't see a full season being played next season either.

I don't know where that'll leave any reconstruction.

Which is exactly why this season should be played to a finish when safe to do so.

No point fudging something now only to have to fudge something else next season.

Might as well wait until it’s safe to play again, play the remaining 8 games of this season followed by the playoffs, and then base the length of 2020/21 (if played at all) on how long there is available before 2021/22 starts. That guarantees only one season is shortened.
